Watched him win the spring race at Talladega in 1997. 56 is way too young to die.

Women drag race too.

This year sure isn’t starting out so well, with the loss of great people. Very sad!

Sad news, I hadn't heard he had cancer In his interviews he always seemed like a good guy.

I don't really follow football much but former Minnesota Viking and Hall of Famer Chris Doleman died yesterday from brain cancer, he was 58.

John obituary, GUYS + Gals read the last sentence!!

John Andretti was a professional racer who was a member of the famous Andretti racing family. Andretti’s uncle is former Indy 500 winner Mario Andretti, and he is the cousin of former racers Michael and Jeff Andretti. He won two NASCAR races and finished fifth at the 1991 Indianapolis 500 before retiring in 2010. He was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in 2017 and had clean scans a year later after treatment, but the cancer returned earlier this year. After his original diagnosis, he used the hashtag #CheckIt4Andretti to urge people to get regular colonoscopies, something he had not done.

John has the most success in NASCAR, not IndyCar.

He only raced 3 (1990, 91 and 92) full seasons in IndyCar and one other where he ran over 50% of the season. He had one win in Auckland, NZ. His career earnings were $2.36M.

Meanwhile, in the NASCAR Cup Series, he raced 7 complete seasons and had 4 more seasons where he ran all but 1 or 2 races (out of a 36 race season). He won 2 races, finished 11th in the points (out of 43 drivers) in 1998 and had career earnings of $23.51M.

He was a class act, I got to meet him a few times in passing when he was driving the #43 Pontiac for Petty Racing. He was happy to help out out very underfunded team I was working for at the time.

Saddens me as he was 4 years younger than I am. Way to young. Kyle Petty told me he was smart enough not to wreck a tight car, and was very good at taking a 40th place car to a 20th place finish. I wish our driver at the time could have done that.

He was my favorite Petty Enterprises driver. And that is because of his attitude and personality.
