Default 70 cruise control lever on Oshawa GTO's??

Hello,

My Judge was a basket case when I bought it many years ago, and I ended up buying another 70 GTO (Oshawa build) for parts that had only been on the road until 1974, due to being T-boned and parked, and never driven again.

The interior of the parts car was all intact and I am 100% sure it was factory original when I stripped it. That car was a 400/T400 with optional cruise, and I have noticed many times while looking at turn signal arms for cruise control that they look different than what was on this GTO.

I finally found out what the arm is from...a 1969 full size Olds.

Has anyone seen this before? Is this an Oshawa thing? Maybe there was a parts shortage when this car was built and they grabbed whatever they had?

First pic is GTO lever from Ames catalog, rest are the reproduction 69 Olds full size lever from eBay then pics of the arm on my 70 GTO steering column (button is missing).

Much more likely that it was simply changed out later in life.

I had considered that, but I bought it from the original owner and it was only on the road for 5 years before being wrecked and stored until I bought it. Seller said it was all original except for long block that was changed under warranty when he blew the engine.

No, the one option (besides the Judge package) was white strip tires.

The parts car GTO that I bought also had very few options, basically tinted glass, console/buckets, AM radio, clock, and cruise.

If the car had any issues under warranty it could have been swapped out without much notice. Or the car was built with cruise but in final checkout it was noticed that the wrong steering column was put in due to a mixup (I presume it would either be repaired at the end of the line or shipped to the dealer with a note for them to fix it).

A full size Olds turn signal being put in a mid sized column seems odd from the factory, did they build full size Olds on that factory line in those years?

I'm not sure what other cars were built at Oshawa..and looking into the cruise lever some more, some Olds sites also list it as fitting a 70 Cutlass which makes it seem more possible to get into a GTO.

Must not have been common (or not done at the factory) as I would have expected someone else to chime in that they had seen this before.

There's a dilapidated 70 GTO within 10 miles from me with a aftermarket cruise control set-up. I've tried buying the car for years. The owner dad bought the car for him after returning from Vietnam. IIRC he said the cruise control set-up was purchased from Sears and Roebuck.
