Default 1972 TRANS AM

Are there any owners of 1972 Trans Am’s out there that have a car built prior to January 1972 ? trying to find when the earliest car was built and some information on Formula steering wheels ,plastic valance ,and deluxe interior options ( Comfortweave vs. perforated inserts) any information would be welcome And appreciated. Input from 1972 formulas / Firebirds pertaining to the same information could also be helpful

My 1972 T/A was built November 71. Standard interior, no valance when purchased and no evidence of plastic valance.

I find part of this query to be interesting because I had understood that the comfort weave was not used after 1971;
I believe all sources cite the perforated material for 1972.

Dec 71 build on mine. Not sure the build date on the formula.

standard interior on 72, deluxe on Formula
Both metal valance

Then again, those may have been changed over years of use.

I owned a early Dec'71 built '72 which came with a new style steel valence in the trunk ( new style as in will fit the clear capsule and amber capsules and the new wiring harness they take)
The one on the car was broken and dealership- was to paint match the new one.
I have a late Nov '72 that also came with a black ( primer ) steel valence and the "Clear" capsule which was used in about 1 month only)
This was painted to match by the dealership, but was on the car at delivery, not in the trunk.
The Dec built Formula had the new style gauges.
Another Dec '72 I owned had perf in the custom interior seats.
I have seen a 10C Trans Am many years ago.

My 12C Formula has a plastic valence, ICX formula wheel, and black buckle seat belt and no warning indicator. Standard interior. Bobs old 72 Formula built same time, had deluxe perforated and plastic valance too. Both clear plastic.

A small request if some can help me out please:
Can someone post a closeup pic of perforated vinyl? I don’t recall ever seeing this material.
Thanks in advance, just trying to learn some more Pontiac info...

I don't know if this helps, but I know of a 72 Formula 455HO project car that I was thinking of buying sometime back. It's a Sundance Orange car with deluxe covert interior (which is missing). I sent to SMS for fabric samples and this is what they sent me. The sample has perforated vinyl, not comfortweave. The build date on the cowl is 12B and it has the seatbelt warning light in the speedo. No front clip, so no valance.

Here are some pictures of a very original 1972 Esprite four speed car that was for sale a year or two ago. This was a one-owner car with 21K original miles on it. It had deluxe covert interior, with perforated vinyl. There were no pictures of the cowl data plate, but according to the Protecto Plate, it was sold new on December 11, 1971. It did not have a seatbelt warning light in the speedo.

Thanks Chris. Yes those pics are what I was looking for. Perforated vinyl is as the name implies, vinyl with holes! Now I know. Thanks!

I had a very early 72 HO Formula. (09E) Factory black cloth (236 trim code), metal valance (unknown if original), clear park lenses, no belt reminder in the speedo, no Formula wheel. Seat belts missing. I also had an early (10B) Esprit with the covert beige cloth interior. Very unusual 1 year only material.
