12B built '72 Formula with black deluxe perforated vinyl, early style deluxe seat belts, belt minder speedo with no wiring, my original Formula steering wheel and original valance were long gone. Anyone ever seen an early '72 with the console mounted seat belt clips? or did that end with the '71 model year.

There’s a lot of great information here thanks for everybody’s input ,still haven’t seen anything for comfortweave material on the early 72 and I do remember it that way but maybe something had been changed even back then .So far the only comfortweave material we’ve seen is on the cloth option.
As far as seatbelt clips I’ve only seen them on 71s never had a 72.

I think one of the 1972 promo pre production cars had comfort weave. I think it may have been Sandalwood. This is an interesting subject as over the transition there were some carry overs. Stainless interior rear view mirror comes to mind as well.

Somewhere on this site are the pictures of the car you're thinking of with the sandlewood interior. I remember seeing them. I believe the stainless rear view ended around the 1st of January 1972. I suspect when the belt minder started and the amber front turn signal lens. I have a 72 TA March 20th build with all the later stuff.

Agree w necdb3, Federal Safety regulations effective 1/72 mandated the black (no glare) rear view mirror, amber park lamps, & working Fasten Seat Belt components. These items began being installed in Dec 71 builds, though some have noted non operable seatbelt warning setups. Through the late 80's & 90's, I hauled in & parted 4 "early" 72 Firebirds, two 350 Esprits, a fairly stripped std interior base Firebird, & an NOM 400 auto Formula w blue dlx interior. All of the 3 dlx interior cars had mediocre condition perforated door panels, not near as nice as the black originals in my 03E built '72 T/A. Ever since the early 90's first repro catalogues with a listing for "72 comfort weave" dlx interior, have always figured that was a typo, as it just didn't jive w what I was seeing. Personally, I really like the feel & look of the '71 comfort weave Firebird seats. the original '71 seats I have, the comfortweave is real woven comfort weave, unlike several sets of original '70 Firebird buckets I've owned which had more of an embossed comfort weave insert.

Here are some pictures of a 1972 Trans Am with deluxe interior (perforated vinyl). This car has been for sale numerous times on eBay, and it's supposedly a one-owner car. I don't have any pictures of the dash, but since the car was built in January 1972, it should have the seatbelt warning light.

You are saying "seat belt clips", Are you referring to the metal clip style holders overhead or the console clips? The console clips went away in 71, the overhead clips changed, I believe, when they switched to belt minder and put the longer plastic holder in.

Yes the clips on the console (Read the posts prior to mine) I have never seen them on a 72 but there was a prior poster asking .
would be interesting to get some good pictures and some feedback on some of the earliest 72 Trans Am built .

Sorry, didn't see that. I have never seen a 72 with them. I don't know when they stopped but not all the 71's had them.

The 1972 Pontiac brochure (printed 8/71) shows interior drawings where the seat belt buckles are stowed on the console clips as they were in 70 and 71. Personally I have never seen a 72 Firebird with the clips on the console. It does show the new available cloth/vinyl material. I had a 71 Formula recently with the deluxe comfortweave interior. The difference between 71 comfortweave and the new 72 cloth material is vastly different. Having owned both types, I can honestly say the 71 comfortweave still feels like vinyl to me, but the 72 Potomac pattern cloth insets definitely feels more like cloth. I have never seen a 72 with comfortweave. More 72 owners- feel free to chime in.

Incredible car. as pristine as it is...why the long door lock knobs? Not knowing much about 72 Esprit's, so....are those factory????

Those are totally aftermarket;
I remember those (and ones like them) still being sold in stores, when I was a teenager;
Those were a theft deterrent, as they prevented someone unlocking your car with a metal coat hanger.
