Default Victor clearance in a 63 catalina?

Guy on the 409 board is building a 421 for a Catalina and was wondering the hood clearance with a Victor. Flat hood OK or need a scoop?

If he is not just building strictly for race which means you now need to run a good flowing non turn down air cleaner, then yes it scoop time unfortunately !

He is planning just a bracket racer 421 in it. Probably E heads.

So to throw this out to you all on air cleaners. Last outing with the 500IA/Camaro pulling the 14x4" air cleaner off I picked up almost 0.4 seconds!

Was your 60' time the same in the runs with and w/o the air cleaner?

60 ft went from 1.63 to 1.55 & 1.54 pulling the cleaner off . Which still is slower than it should be. MPH picked up 3-4 on the two runs afterwards also. last one 132.5

Guy said he is going to run the Ford truck/SD scoop so should have plenty of clearance for Victor I would think.
