In the small town in central Missouri I used to call home, the downtown merchants paid for free movies in the city park on Saturday nights.

If I remember correctly, they started charging a nickel about 1950.

Used to be a lot of drive-ins, but property values pretty much put them out of business.

Haven't been to a movie in decades, so have no idea of current prices; but the ticket price would have to be sufficiently high so the owners could make a profit.

There will be many changes to what we have considered normal in the next few years. One I particularly like in telehealth using Zoom.

Jon.

There used to be 4 or 5 in my area, two with playgrounds. They’re all gone.
When my son was young we used to take him all the time. My wife, (a farm girl) when the sun goes down so do her eye lids. She would fall asleep before the opening credits of the first movie were done. Lol. My son would make it through the first movie, and I would always be the only one awake for the second.

I bet you guys thought I was announcing that I was leaving the forums. I know some would enjoy that a little to much. Sorry if I disappointed.

Seriously though, I really miss the drive in movies, I don’t care for theaters to dark and cramped and people having to get in and out of the aisle I haven’t been to the movies in 20 years.

Yes, in Lockport. Not far from where the old Niagara Swap Meet used to be.

We used to go nearly every week in HS and some years later.
Buddies had 73 FB, 68 Roadrunner, 70 Camaro, 67 Mustang.
Lot was loose gravel. I had side pipes that dumped straight down on 68 FB. Would make bare patches in parking spot before leaving lol.

One nite in HS my future wife and I where there by ourselves and fell asleep during 2nd movie.
We woke after movie was over and only few cars still leaving.
Problem was it was past her 11pm curfew. Her father was still up cause her younger brother was still too.
I always went inside when taking her home. He was not a happy camper finding out she wasn't home either...

Jon.
A friend from college(we both studied electronic communications) has been involved with setting up/promoting some of this Telehealth stuff. While I am usually disgusted by technology and the changes it brings, this is definitely one of the few good things that has been allowed to 'blossom' partially due to our current health crisis.

Driven-ins .... where I learned to love the electric trunk release on my 68 GTO. I'd put a couple of friends in the trunk, the access roads to the parking areas had high fences to hide the headlights .... I'd roll slow, pop the trunk release and the buddies would jump out and stroll into the parking area.

We had four around our town...
Shankweilers - been there more times than I can recall. Even been turned away a bunch of times when it was sold out! Yup gotta get there early, Great night out with the kids.
Becky's never been there but my buddies and I used to talk about going all the time back when they only showed X-rated movies. none of us had the guts to go, too many creepy stories.
Bethlehem Drive in - A regular spot if the movies at the other places were lame. But a long ride from our neighborhood so we couldn't drink too much
Boulevard drive in - some weeks we went there 2-3 times a week, it was the safest place to drink when we were in high school. Sometimes there would be 4 different high schools in there partying. If everyone stayed calm and away from the cars with families it was cool. If it got loud, the cops would roll through the parking lot with the spot lights. I cant remember them ever getting out of the cars. but it was enough to scare everyone to cool down. After they would roll through youd see cars leaving from the parties, but we didnt we figured the cops were waiting out there at the exit road for the first car full of kids to pull over.
Good times!
