Can I paint or not?
Today as I was shooting some farm equipment it occurred to me .... I can put on a decent coat of SS, aklyd enamel. Typical Rustoleum type stuff, this time of year I usually reduce with acetone, use a FinishLine FLG-3, with like a 1.5 tip. (50 to 60 degrees), reduce maybe 30%.
My point is, if I can shoot this stuff and end up with a smooth glossy finish, how would this level of skill translate to automotive products? I'm confident with this cheap paint because I've used it a lot, and in a lot of conditions. Can I expect equally good behavior from BC/CC automotive products following their guidelines for reducer, pressure, tip size and using a better quality gun etc? Or should I buy some of the product and get a feel for it before trying to use it on a vehicle. To be honest I'd love to paint some of my equipment Verdora Green |

if You have mastered wheel barrows....I’d say you are ready for Automotive refinishing.

There is only one way to find out, give it a shot and see what happens. Try to avoid metallics on your first attempt.

I assume if you think a wheelbarrow is farm equipment you haven't been on a farm much. |

Last time I checked every professional painter at one point painted their first car.
Obviously we don't all have the skills of the PHD rocket scientist brain surgeons that paint cars professionally. The question is, do the the basic skills used in shooting common equipment paint carry over to automotive work. |

Dataway, yes I would say you have the skills.
I painted the Packard in the one car garage you see in the background. Never really painted a car before. I think it turned out well for an amateur. |

If you can spray enamel paint and make it look good, you can easily spray BC/CC.

There’s a guy on here that painted (Varnished) furniture with a spray gun for a living.....and found the transition to automobiles to be no problem....and mentioned in a thread he was a perfectionist. So I think your good to go.

A friend of mine told me that with bccc, if you can cut it and buff it it'll look good.. the painting part is easy. I'd definitely try it if I had a good place to do it.

I have a friend who did the opposite, went from bodyshop to furniture restoration. He said there wasn't much to change except the product. Still DA's and still uses bondo. Biggest difference he says is that there is a lot less competition and that equals to more money.

Just found a photo of the first BC/CC paint job I did on one of the race bikes about 15 years ago. I like blue And one of the tractors I just did in straight enamel OEM paint back in Jan. I sanded, primed and painted right over the dents. Already collecting damage again. |

That’s where the idea for trailer hitch ball bags on Ram trucks came from. https://images.app.goo.gl/r79rBTzVQyQVxTLk7 Murf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

There was a ram about that size at a flooring company here, that was covered with thick curly wool and had very large spiraled 'horns'. It was bizarre because this was in a very urban/industrial area within the downtown city limits. Nothing but concrete and chain-link fences everywhere. They had a plywood shelter for it in the parking lot. I'll bet it was more effective than a dog, especially in that urban neighborhood which was sort of a depressed and relatively high crime area.
