1962 Catalina Power Brake Booster Swap
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXG_adxRvwE
I dont like to post my videos on here because it feels dirty. I dont like to feel like I am taking advantage of my community to beg for views. But in this case most of the information I started with to get this job done was by searching old threads both on here and on Google. So this is a consolidation effort of sorts. Maybe down the road years from now someone will come upon this thread and it might help them. So thats all this is, putting it up because it might make some other enthusiasts life easier later. The problem: Power brake boosters for early 60s pontiacs are pretty much unobtanium. You cant get replacements. So with some searching on the forum and some advice from Scarebird ( who we should all thank more for the free golden information he hands out) I decided to swap in a universal hot rod unit from Tuff Stuff and a late 70s C-10 dual master. So you are improving to a dual master as well with this. This is a 9" dual diaphragm assembly based on some S10 models from what I understand. You might be able to buy a kit from Master Power but this is decidedly cheaper, and really wasnt that hard. Knowing what I know now its even easier. Parts list I used is attached minus some lines and fittings. I didn’t need the little bullet adapter. I just bought it just in case Important note about the pushrod assembly, I used the summit kit SUM-760125. It comes with multiple ends. The demon tweak for me was to take the 'U" shaped end and cut one side off. (Pictured) This allowed the rod to be centered but prevents interference with the pedal. You WILL most likely have to shorten the assembly. I actually even shortened the stinger stud out of the back of the booster. You may be able to get away without this, but it made it all fit better in my case. You just wont be able to return it after if you do so be committed. Other modification note, I DID NOT have to modify my firewall, but mine already had a wonky later 13" booster installed. I believe that the early boosters have a slightly different bolt pattern than later. So you may have a elongate your holes in the firewall, but its a VERY small difference. I looked at mine forever, and I think they were drilled a touch larger by someone previously but its so small its hard to see with the naked eye. Also attached is a simple chart for altering your lines to upgrade from the single to dual master. This information was taken from old thread here. I just made a quick Vizio diagram for those of us who are visual learners. I do talk about the possibility of using the Cadillac Master Cylinder in the video too that might make line routing easier. If someone does come upon this and still has questions, even way down the road. PM me and Ill try to take some extra pictures or something. I did have to cut some stuff out of the video to keep it from being longer than it already is.

Having already done this I found his video quite interesting. One note: when installing these new boosters I found that they usually have Metric studs. Even if the bolt pattern is the same the studs will not fit through the fire wall holes and you have to drill them slightly oversized.

I do not remember what the ones on the new booster were.. But that old one that was installed had two different types of fastener and only two of the 4 were all the way down. I feel like there was a mix of metric and sae nuts. So that might have been the case in that one.
That might have been something that didn’t make the Final Cut but I remember being confused about the hardware and why not all the bolts were down when I took the old one out.
