North,

You are correct about the leaking rear brakes being a blessing, who ever replaced the rear shoes and part of the hardware didn't have a clue on how drum brakes are supposed to be assembled! On the Rt rear I found the spreader bar spring installed on the wrong end, & stretched to fit over the large end! Of course it was broken! Also they just had washers behind the springs that hold both shoes on, and the rear parking brake was also broken. On the left rear the lower spring between the shoes was installed upside down, not allowing the adjuster to turn. And both cylinders look original, and the left one was also leaking just not as bad. Lucky I am a pack rat and had everything I needed to correct the issues in my used brake parts stash.
Got a chance to drive the car around the block a few times today, I could actually test drive it and feel confident it would stop when I needed to! The car does drive really well, I am pleasantly surprised how well it starts & runs, and now stops! Feeling better about the purchase now. This winter I will have to pull the front drums again and clean and inspect them. I only pulled them looking for leaks. But after seeing the work performed on the rear brakes, I suspect I will find somethings wrong on the front also.

I could have wrote that ten times in the last few years! But if that is the type of troubles you run into then you are a lucky man!

Well as a few of you know the engine went south on this car last summer, I only drove it for around 10 hours.

Finally got around to doing a warm compression check Monday, Car smokes pretty bad, no coolant in the oil, no bubbles in the radiator. Below are the numbers on the check.

#1-183, #2-187, #3-185, #4-125, #5-ZERO, #6-100

#5 surprised me as its spark plug looked good, #6 plug is oil soaked. Tried to do a leak down test on the 3 bad cylinders, the only place I heard air going was into the crankcase and out the oil fill tube.
Stuck my cheap borescope down the cylinders and all 3 have oil puddles on the pistons.
Looks like it is time to pull the engine. Rob at Woodland motor sports has offered to trade me a good running used 67 sprint engine, for a spare engine I have, and some rare parts I accumulated over the years.
Looks like I will be selling off my remaining 250 parts to help pay for the rebuild. At least I should be able to enjoy the car this summer.

Sorry to hear about that, hopefully it’s just rings and or valve seat leaks.

Thanks North, I appreciate it. I rolled the dice on it and paid to much money even if it had a good engine. The engine runs remarkable well on 3 1/2 to 4 cylinders. Just smokes. No noises and hard to beleive I don't hear a miss, but I almost always had duel exhaust on my other cammers. I could always hear a miss with duels.

A bit of progress made, picked up a good used 67 Sprint Long block from Rob of Woodland Motorsports, removed the hood & Drive shaft & Drained the Fluids on the engine & Saginaw 4-speed. Then ran out of ambition. Hopefully I will get the new to me long block cleaned up and spray bombed this week, and start to dissassemble the rest of the accessories on the original engine.
Interested to find out what caused the #5 cylinder to have ZERO compression. I could not see a hole in the piston with my cheap boroscope.

Sorry to hear of this, But glad you're going in after it.
You should make a separate post.
We love progress reports (well I do at least)
