Question Question

Did they use a FLEX fan on the FB w/AC?
I always thought they were all steel.

It’s a 7 bladed flex fan w/o any clutch unique only to Firebirds with the OHC. One year only I believe. The picture on BAT looks correct. I have never seen one for sale on EBay.

Yes they did, they used the same fan on the OHC-6 Tempest's & Lemans with A/C, even the 1bbl cars. I have used the 7 bladed a/c fans from Chevy trucks from the 70's with 250 or 292's also. They are almost the same, I had one on my 66 Lemans that came with a damaged original fan, no one ever could tell the difference unless I told them.

You could get A/C on 68 & 69 1bbl OHC-6's, just not Sprints.

Just noticed your picture. It looks close to that but there are no notches. It is an odd diameter size compared to other Pontiac’s, much smaller. I’ll try to snap a picture tomorrow when it is not dark out.

I stand corrected, looks like 67-69 Firebird and 66-67 Tempest with OHC with AC.

This is the Factory Fan on my '66 Sprint W/AC
I've never seen a Flex fan on any of the OHCs with AC.
Not to say it's not correct just that I've not seen one.

Well I didn't meet the reserve, but i contact with the seller. Maybe we can work out something we both can live with. He really overpaid for the car when he bought it IMO

I don't think its going to happen, the owner wants $35,000 for it. I think he's nuts. I made him my final offer he is thinking about it. But now he is now talking about taking it to a Florida auctionwith 4 or 5 other cars this spring.

I told him the body and interior look very nice, but at 104,000 miles I am sure the drive train and suspension are about used up. But thanks for all the support. I will let you all know about the final outcome. But I am not holding my breath.

He will never get anywhere near $35000 for it. A very nice 68 Sprint FB Convertible that sold last winter at auction, only brought $27,000. I knew that car personally and it’s last two owners. This is the current market.

Agree, 35K is way too high. I actually thought your bid was a little too high.

I would be surprised if he finds a serious buyer willing to pay $30k or more.

It is a whole lot easier to find someone willing to overpay on a V8 car.

Well believe it or not it looks like we made a deal at my final offer but it won't be final until early next week. And yes I think I offered $5000 to much, but it is still several thousand less than what the seller claims he paid for it this spring.

Hopefully the body and interior is as nice at they look in the pictures.

Congrats!

Here is some solace about overpaying, If I look at my cars they fall into two categories, the ones I am glad I bought because they were nicer than expected, the ones I'd perhaps not buy if I could redo the process. In either case I don't recall what I paid.

Much better to overpay for a quality car than to get a below market deal on a turd.

That car is a gem, minty So-Cal body, factory 4 speed, factory AC, sweet color combo, short of being a ragtop you've got the most desirable Sprint car out there in terms of both condition and desirability.

Thanks north, Those are the points that made me want the car, Clean California Sheet Metal, and very nice interior, plus the A/C & 4-speed. I can't imagine there are many if any other examples left in close to original condition.

Looking at the pictures again I see the Oil Pan has been repainted (in the wrong color of Pontiac Blue) So I wonder if it has had some bottom end work done? Or more likely removed to change a leaking gasket. It will be nice to own a cammer again, Sold my 69 Bird almost 2 years ago now.

Now I have to get my Solstice Coupe ready to sell. Its spot inside will soon be taken.

Congratulations on acquiring this vehicle. It's just a beautiful car. I don't believe that one could buy a project and fix it up for the same price. Not to mention the potential pitfalls of restoring that we are increasingly subject to. The white on red combination is crisp and sporty.

Dumb Question, it just occurred to me this car does not have the Sprint Stripe on it? Was the stripe an option on 67's? I am fine with it either way, I think they look great on some color combo's and not so much on others.
