Hey Keith, when I was growing up in Detorit, there used to be (and these are really fuzzy memories) Art Moran Pontiac, along with (I think) Roger Penske Chevrolet, and a Chrysler/Plymouth dealership all within a stone's throw of one another, on 12-mile road? I seem to recall them being around the Tel-Twelve Mall. I remember back in 1973, we looked at a new white 73 SD-455 Trans Am parked in front of the Art Moran Pontiac showroom, and I recall seeing an Indy race car parked in the Penske showroom. My oldest brother said there was a "road to nowhere" that ran next to the Chrysler dealership, marked off for a 1/4 mile, with a turnaround at the far end.

I found these pics of a Los Angeles dealer called Majestic Pontiac. You can see how the sign was in decent shape a few years ago, deteriorated over the years, and finally into the 2009 symbol of traditional Americana : a Sporting Goods store, a Denny's, and a Goodwill center.

Yep - Telegraph Rd at 12 Mile.

Art Moran Buick/Pontiac/GMC is still there but I don't think Penske still has the Chevy dealership.

There is a Chrysler/Plymouth dealership ("Southfield Chrysler/Jeep") but the area has really grown as a result of the Telegraph Rd/I-696 interchange. I'm afraid the "road to nowhere" either is no longer there or now actually goes somewhere...

I like that they kept the sign.

There is a story on this on the internet, about this dealership and the sign being hacked up.
I ran across it recently.

Wonder who got the bottom parts? Chiefs head was only part saved.

morning
nice article on the engineering car

I wonder how easy it was to start a project that ended in a car
seems like it happened often that a car was built just to peove a point or two

But the absolute BEST car i ever saw was a two seater tenpest/lemans that Dollie Cole drove around Detroit and Pontiac for many years. Came in for periodic maintenance.

Next time I talk to the HC, I will ask about it

Regards

...I have a couple of businesses in this old building, but back in the 50's and 60's it was our local Ford Dealer...I remember going there with my parents to order a new 63 1/2 Ford...in 1964 the dealership moved to another location and was there until their demise last year...the building still has the same red/white tile floor from the 50's

...not a dealership, but the old Maxwell/Chrysler Plant in our town...it lasted almost 100 years, torn down about 5 years ago

...building it in 1906, the V-Pres of the United States was there

...as it looked for years, providing jobs for 6,500 people at its heyday

...the demise, 2004....same corner as in the other pictures....they left a wall for a memorial

the dealership that i work for will be celebrating 50 years this summer.
started life as chevy and buick only, now full line. the pontiac dealer in town sold out to us several years back. the building is still standing, changed hands many times and now the owner sells used cars on the side.

i used to work at the local O'reilly auto parts. that building started as a dodge dealership, than to a grocery store, then to a furniture store, and now to auto parts. almost full circle, i know the dodge dealership was around in the 40s for sure, i don't not know how much older it might be.

I had two uncles that both drove for FJ Boutell; In fact, one of my uncles loaned Mr Boutell the money to start the company.
