Default Frame Chop and BIG header build

Just thought I would post some pictures of my winter project. Before I had 3 u-joints for the steering and I just didn't like it that well. Now I have 2. The bad part is the steering shaft is making header fitment tight. I removed the center part of the engine crossmember and lowered the rest of the crossmember down about 2" for additional header clearance. Basically the frame is like 2 pieces to C channel. I removed the top one and welded a plate accrost it. About 3" was removed from the backside of the crossmember at the framerail and it is going to help alot. I can remove the center but the rack will have to be bolted too. Right now I'm about half way done building 2-1/8" to 2-1/4" step headers with Edelbrock merge collectors.

Nice work Todd, just curious of how you determined where the steering rack should be located to minimize bump steer?

I bought a bump steer kit from Speedway Motors and limited the suspension travel with chains. The main thing with the rack is to get the tie rod piviot point in line with the lower control arm piviot point on the frame. This rack came off a Porshe and I shortened it 3". TRZ has a kit now. I did my conversion at the same time they were working on the kit. I'm cheap so I made my own like alot of things on the car. It's not what you buy it's what you build. Hope that helps and I can get you more pictures if you want.
