Rechroming Bumpers
I have been looking on here for a while for chrome shop reccomendations for the rear bumper on my 63 GP. I think I have narrowed it down to two possibilities. LKQ (Keystone plating) in Minnesota and Custom Metal Finishing in Indiana. LKQ has some good reviews on here and the advantage of a local location I can drop the bumper off at. Custom Metal Finishing has a huge following on the HAMB, and I don't see any bad reviews. The price is only about $40 different, so that is negligible. So, any pros and cons of either one? Or a third reccomendation?

I used Keystone on my rear bumper. It had 2 holes for a small trailer hitch and they welded them solid and finished for no extra charge, looks great. Advanced is top of the line, but you will pay extra for it. A friend had his 2 smaller 69 T/A bumpers done by them, perfect but cost $1800.

I've used Keystone (or their predecessor, North Star Bumper) on several cars and was always happy with their quality. They local to me so of course that played a part in it.

I like this thread.
TTZ, are you restoring the car or is this a re-chrome to address the only weak part of a driven car's back end? |

I have used Keystone in MN and also Tri City Plating in TN. Very happy with both.
I think Tri City is a little better quality wise but was more $$. |

I've heard great things about advanced plating in Tennessee, but they aren't in the budget. Has anyone used the place I mentioned in Indiana?

I'm looking for some feedback about Custom Metal Finishing in Indiana too. They also polish aluminum trim (as well as re-anodize, I'm told). Not trying to hijack this thread, just thought my question kinda falls in line with recommendations on this subject.
Thanks |

Used Keystone 9-10 years ago on both front and rear on my 61. Looks great and the few minor problems on the cores were fixed to look original. Convenient that my neighbor works for Keystone. But I doubt it helped on price.
Also used them about 25 years ago when it was North Star. Had a problem with finish on one piece that they fixed no argument. |

I have used Keystone several times. Most recent were the bumpers for my 66. Cost was just at $500 each to have them done and that was with a discount. The quality of the chrome was very good and overall great product. I had a rear bumper done by a company in Chicago (purchased it redone from them on ebay) that I can't recall the name. The quality of the 66 bumpers from keystone is much better than the 65 rear that I have. I will say that on the 66 bumpers from keystone, they did round out some of the sharper lines a little more than I would like, but they were flat, smooth, and very nice chrome.

Had them do both bumpers on my '62 Impala. Very happy with their work. Would use them again, Carmine.

No issues with keystone. Great guarantee. About 500/ea for front and rear on my 63 and they claim they gave me a discount. Front bumper was still tweaked a tad when i got it back. They redid it no questions asked.

Ditto on Tri-City. They've always done right by me. Even when I brought them less than desirable bumpers.

Used Tri-city many times no complaints. Fairly fast turn around. Last time they said 5 weeks wound up being 4. And I picked up at Carlisle. They are vendors their. Save on shipping one way at least.

Of the ones you guys are talking about are they getting these bumpers and other parts to "Factory" appearance or are they going another direction. I have a set for my 69 that need some work and then a good chrome plating exactly as they would come from the factory.
