It glues to the bottom side of the top of the dash. Off to the left and right side of the dash speaker if you will. It would go in the spot where the insulation stops in this picture. A lot of people don't use the factory style insulation because it tends to fall apart. I used what is in the picture instead.

if your using the the aftermarket stuff its not correct at all . I don't think to many ppls are going to get to fired up if its wrong material. I have never found anything close to the factory material

Went thru this with my '64 convertible.
Here's the thread where I got a lot of input and help. IIRC, we just went with the repro stuff, probably from Ames. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=804139 Includes the factory diagram showing all the insulation. |

The factory under dash insulation was some really nasty stuff. It was a fiberglass mat, similar to the insulation used in walls in our homes, except it was thin. Every time I'd work under the dash, pieces would fall in my face. I don't think the OEM material did much to deaden sound.
When I restored my '64, I removed all the old insulation and used the foil-backed material from Home Depot designed for heating ducts. It's about 5/16" thick and has adhesive on the side opposite the foil.
