Does anyone know what were the correct heater and a/c hose sizea for a 1972 T/A. I believe I read somewhere the a/c hose was a ribbed design but don't know for sure. I have an assembly manual and it does not tell me the hose or clamp size. It give the part number for the clamp but not the size. Any thoughts would be appreciate as well as any pictures of an original/unrestored a/c routing. Many thanks

Frank,

Here is a pic of my restored, but not to original, 72 base model Bird's system. I used more effective crimp collars to replace the hose clamps and the latest barrier style ac hose to keep that expensive R12 inside.

The heater hose sizes are 3/4" for the one to the head and 5/8" for the one to the front of the block. The correct hose clamps are the post type in same two sizes.

Jim, I'm gonna tell Rocky on you, LOL!

Jim has it reversed - it's 3/4" hose to the inlet on the timing cover, and 5/8" hose to the nipple at the rear of the RH cylinder head.

geeze les, what was wrong with the "before" presentation ?

seriously, nice job !

any tricks on getting the ac unit, label & pulleys looking bright & shiney other then a little elbow grease ?

by the way, any word from steve o since his "so long" post ? i was hoping he'd reply with an update after all the suggestions.

Thanks Tim .

I use Eastwood underhood black rattle cans to spot paint components using shop rags and cardboard to stop overspray. The ac labels are new repops. Then I use spray Pledge on old t-shirts to remove dust and give a matte gloss to the underhood parts including the hoses. I also use Pledge on the tires: spray on, wipe off.

I haven't heard anything from Steve O and the only contact info that I have is his wife's. Apparently, he meant it when he said "adios".
