I just picked up a 71 bird and I'm a little confused. The VIN says it's a Formula but it has the standard gauges, speedo and the cluster set of gas gauge and idiot lights. Could a Formula be ordered this way? It's a low option car with AC and not much else.

Rally gauges were an option. My '70 Formula came with all the gauges and a big clock where the tach would be.

Early 70's Formulas came with a fuel gauge and warning lights and as standard equiptment. The Rally Gauges with Clock was one option and Rally Gauges with Clock and Tach was another option on the Formulas of that period.

It wasn't until 1979 that Rally Gauges w/Tach and Clock were standard on all Formula models.

Thanks for the information, I thought all of the Formulas came with the Rally gauges.
