Default Value of a 69 RA IV - Clone

At least I think it's a clone.
http://www.alexanderautomotive.net/e...4078dd6dcc.htm

This car was built by the Glasgos of Akron, and despite being a clone is so nicely done and runs so well I considered selling my 68 H/O for this. The car has run 12.60s at over 115.
I had lost track of it but found it on-line after some searching.
The car sold through Mecum in 2013 for $70K. Then it went through several classic car dealers and now the current dealer stated that they want "$120K for it and really will not come down much on price."
One could get a real numbers car for that - perhaps not as nice!
Also, the appeal of this car - it is beastly. Manual steering, manual brakes, radio delete, stick, Richmond 4.10s - I'm fine with that - but how many folks would have interest in such a car, given an "aging" market?
I love the lack of options, the performance, color combo, the quality of work, the hide-a-ways, poverty-caps, 4spd, RAIV (faked) but has the correct heads.
What should this really go for?

That's a really nice car. In my opinion, for a second generation GTO, that is what I'd want. It's perfect for me.

That said, $120K is a crazy price. I can't imagine anyone paying that. What's it worth? I don't know.

Pretty and nice. fair market value of clone is moot to a non-airloom person overseas.

Rather ride my 68 RA II clone... with OVerDrive!

Tough question. You’re asking an investment question on a car that will likely never realize a return on the investment at that price. But if its THE car you want, the price is irrelevant (assuming you have the $).

My only way to value the car is by comparing to my own. I bought my PHS 69 GTO Convertible for 41k and put another 4k in to it for an O/D 4sp Auto with an upgraded 3.55 posi rear. Plus a conversion of the AC to 134a. It already had a non-numbers matching 69 GTO 400, hideaways, AC, hood tac and a few other factory options.

Based on that comparison, I could never see that clone being worth almost 3X my own car. .... at least to me. But so what.... if its THE one... buy it and enjoy it.

I love that black car. A photo of it's been the wallpaper photo on my laptop for years.
The only problem with it is that it's almost too pretty to drive.

If the body, paint, and engine are as I good as I think they are, I'm going to say $60K, maybe $75K would be fair. Here in SoCal, the only standard GTOs I see that hit $100K are concourse level '65 convertibles and such.

I think by clone, they mean a real GTO, but not a RAIV?

Yes - from what I recall, this is a real GTO but was not a RAIV car.
The car might not have been black with red, originally - I haven't run the PHS, but there is really not much point in doing that. The car is stunning, but I was thinking in the same price range - $60K to $75K. I just wanted another opinion - thanks! I'm strongly a 69-70 clutch-pedal GP guy, but this GTO is very enticing!

I saw this car years ago super nice one of the nicest 69 cars I have seen. It was the year of the co-convention in Dayton and racing at kill kare I believe. Fist time I saw it it was coming out of the water box sideways rolling smoke and running mid to high 12’s very cool car.

I have followed this and various other Glasco cars. This one is truly killer, I'd say 65/75 K is where it would top out but the quality and attention to detail that those guys put into their work is just exceptional. If I had the money it wouldn't take much convincing to pay more but not 120K. Here is a YT of the car and the OO 70 Judge that they did

I bookmarked that video years ago and still find it great....Thanks for posting it for those who haven't seen it yet.

I saw this thread earlier today and mulled it over. Gosh, for much less than $100K you could probably build one of your own. Other than the 242 VIN, your build would be a "clone" but who cares. The coolness would over-ride that.

Here's another Glasco '69 Ram Air lV, not black but still really nice.

For those kind of coins it would have to run a whole lot faster than a 12.jmo

Agreed. Car Show trophies (local show or Pebble Beach) just don't cut it for those
dollars.

Interesting comment. I did a nut & bolt restoration on a car completed 10 years ago this past fall. Logged 70 miles over that time & sits in a climate controlled environment, seldom started or moved. It honestly looks as good as it did 10 years ago, however some of the plated metal parts might have lost a little luster & the aluminum parts on the A/C fittings etc, have dulled down a little. Nothing a little 0000 steel wool wouldn't brighten back up though. I have been happy with how well its holding up.

I remember when I saw this car at Arbys cruise in ! Paul was parked on the grass and it was kinda wet and he got a little stuck! spinned up some mud ! He must have spent a while cleaning out the mud on the tires.

Too nice to drive and enjoy, unless ya like just looking at cars. I would be a nervous wreck driving that beauty..

It would be like "driving" your wife in front of your father-in-law
