Hey guys, this is my first post to the forum. I've always wanted a 70-72 firebird ever since I was a kid, and now that I'm all growed up, I've finally gotten my first one.
 It didn't come with A/C, so I was wondering if anyone out there has installed an A/C system themselves, and if so, if they could shed some insight as to what specific compressor and condenser they recommend. I talked to Vintage Air and they recommended the Generation II Universal system. Has anyone had experience with that system? If so, was it fairly easy to install, or was there a lot of custom fabrication you had to do to make everything fit? Thanks in advance!

And I installed a Vintage Air Gen 11 134 hvac unit in my GTO. The only Pontiac specific part in the "kit" is the 3 piece compressor mounting bracket. That leaves the installer to select, position, and install various components such as switches, outlets, evapator, and condenser. Being good @ fabbing is helpful when installing universal kits such as these. The unit works very well and delivers new car performance.

Thanks for responding! Yeah, I've been looking for factory parts but not having much luck. Not having much luck even finding a nonfactory condenser/compressor that will fit...it's my first time doing this kind of stuff though.

Vintage Air, Classic Air, and Old Air all sell similar components including the popular Sanden compressor and various sizes of condensers.

Awesome, thanks for the info Les. I just talked to Vintage Air and they said that their Gen II Super will work just great with very little or no fabricating; that it will fit perfectly in the 72 Firebird without any problems.
 So I'll probably order that next week and have some nice cold air by next weekend!
