Default WANTED: 65 Full Size Battery Hold Down

Need a battery hold down clamp for a 65 Bonneville, this is the type that goes across the top of the battery, and up into the front radiator support. Does not seem to be reproduced from my research and possibly specific to 65 full size models only?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

A hold down clamp from a mid 90's Toyota HiAce is a perfect fit. Possibly from quite a bit earlier and much later might also be the same?

They are plastic coated so not affected by corrosion. I don't think HiAce's were sold in the US? If you can't find one that suits your needs, I'm happy to get a price for you.
PM me if you want to go further with it.
Ian

Hi Ian,

I see you are located in Melbourne, I am down in Tassie!
I did a quick search on the hiace clamp and didn’t come up with anything that looks like what I need. Can you please send me a photo or link to where you purchased yours from?

Also if you have one or can get one, I’d be happy to buy from you which would probably be the easier option, as I’m assuming you have done this and know what works and what doesn’t.

It looks like a bit of an unusual set up on the 65, with the hold down going across the top of the battery, then inside the radiator support through a hole and then locking up into the top of the support?

Thanks for your help.

Tassie eh?? I haven't been to Tassie for 33 years and its on my doorstep so to speak. I wanted to go over last year and still wanted to this year but very hard to get away from work. Maybe soon

Here you go. I still own and drive my old 1993 HiAce for work use so I just took a few pictures of the battery hold down.

I'm sure you should be able to find a few Toyota wreckers that might have a HiAce in their yards but I'd just go and buy it new.

Let me know how it works out for you.

Ian

Red face Maybe I'm wrong????

After just posting up these pictures, it suddenly dawned on me that I used a Toyota battery hold down in my 1966 Grand Prix. NOT on my '65 Bonneville....

Maybe they are different??? If so I apologise.

However if anyone one needs a hold down for a '66 Big car, I can guarantee that this will work.

If that Ames part PP122, will fit a 1965 Bonneville, then the Toyota HiAce bracket is the same as I pictured above.

Seeing as the OP is in Tasmania, I still recommend he finds a secondhand one locally to trial fit it. I'll bet that it will work.

Ames "don't got 'em no more"..........I'll bet every '65 big car owner would buy one, if they were available

I am quite sure that if PontiacParadise in MN could get a '65 example to make a pattern, they would provide these, as probably every '65 owner could use a new one. If someone who reads this has an original piece, try reaching out to them. They are making new battery trays for our cars, with a '66 tray coming out soon.

Thanks for the replies and photos Ian, Ive done a search for the HiAce bracket, hoping i could get one online, but no luck so will have to do a trip to Toyota parts dept when i get time and hope you can still buy them new for that age of car. Not many junkyards close to where i am, so probably wont have much luck there.
Will let you know how it turns out, but if you happen to have a spare i would still be happy to purchase from you in the meantime. Cheers

I already emailed Ames regarding Part number PP122 and this was the response:

"It was discontinued a while ago. Not sure that its coming back at this point"

So yes, this appears to be a 65 only item and very hard to come by, also not the same as GTO etc...

Im still interested to purchase if someone has an original, or if someone has some photos of an original it would be to see, as maybe its close enough to one of the other types of hold-downs that are reproduced that they could be made to work with some modification?

Would be good to see what others are using on their 65's as seems to be a common problem.

I found this on EBay. Looks to be the same style? Think he has others for sale. Said to be for a 66-67 Buick Skylark GS.
