Default Trouble installing upper front control arm bushings.

Replacing the front upper control arm bushing on the shaft and thru control arm.
Measuring the od of the bushing 1.2605, inside of arm is 1.104 roughly over 1/8 of an inch.
I cant even get them started in the control arms and i dont want to force them for fear of damaging something.
Using NAPA bushings and cross check numbers for application and they are the correct ones.
Working on a 1965 Pontiac Tempest.
Anybody have this problem as well, if so what was your solution.
Thanks
D'man

Measuring my bushings- they are in agreement with ~1.26' dia of the NAPA bushings. Is it possible the original sleeves are still in place? Just a thought. Can you post a pic?

You maybe right I thought the remaining piece was part of control arm.
I feel like a smuck.
Tried up loading photo to page, could email to you?
Thanks

Typically that original "cup" or sleeve is pressed out of there and replaced with the bushing. They pop out pretty easily with a well placed air chisel.

How do you know how far to press the new one in?

Do your self a massive favor. Go over to SC&C and buy a pair of adjustable SPC uppers and put a modern front end alignment on that car and really enjoy it.. Get the ones with the .9 tall ball joints... https://scandc.com/new/node/1012

Try freezing the bushings and heating the control arms in the oven.. Are you sure there not oversize bushings for worn out control arms?

I screwed up, I didn't have the outer piece of the bushing removed.
Removed them and hopefully all will be ok.
