Default Another Ash Tray Light Question

While removing the after market radio harness wiring from my 67 GTO this fell out on the floor. I know it is the ash tray light. Does it come apart and can it be fixed? And, the hole for the light is way off center as shown in the picture. Is that normal and can it be fixed.

That appears to just be one of the light covers.

I'd say the hole should be in the center between the tabs to direct the light into the ashtray.

George

That's right, except I'm not sure if it's the ash tray light or cigar lighter light that has the smaller hole. Either way, you'll be surprised at how much those little holes light up the ash tray or lighter.

The light in question is for the ash tray. I have already installed the cigar lighter one. The question remains, can the ash tray light housing be taken apart? The white wire pulled out of the back of the housing.

As I recall, the ridge at the rear that makes it look like a rimfire cartridge can be pulled out of the 'bullet' outer shell. Might have to "WD-40" it.

Has to, that's how you change out the bulb.
And, also, then you can repair wire connection to center contact.

Thank you 60sstuff and everyone else that replied to this post. Forgive me for not thanking you sooner. I am an old man and forget to do things but that is no excuse. I'll try to do better in the future.

Mr. fyrffytr1,

It’s all good. Thanks for being a gentleman.

I’m just trying to help other PY members, just as many other members do.
I try to provide photos when I’m able.

Here’s a few more details on that ashtray light thingy.

Hopefully you still have the spring inside for the bulb and then crimp/solder the tiny top hat end on white wire.

Should be an easy fix.

Good luck, Chris
