Default Bearing wear?

So a while back ago I mentioned about the wear on my top half (block side) of my no.1 main bearing, I called King (King bearings)actually they didn't say a whole lot about it, so I'm wondering if someone else has this brass color wear on the bearings. Picture posted is from my No. 5 cap side, same wear color?

Thanks.

I’ve seen copper in bearings and it doesn’t look like it.

If you pull up on the front of a crank then the back end will be forced down. Top of #1 bottom of #5.

What kind of tension do you run on your blower belt? No I have never run a blower. I have install and adjusted tension on these kinds on belts with OHC setups.

That’s what I was thinking but there is no wear on the other main bearings. There is always yank on the ywith a blower. It’s the color of the wear (if it’s wear) a brass/bronze color?
My other crank bearing never wore like that, all bearing looked great.

I don't know what your setup looks like and what people have made for your setup. Is there a front crank support that is made that will work with your setup?

2 years on bearing, King saw pic and they said it wasn’t nothing and that I could have went another year no problem, I just was curious about the brass color. I didn’t realize that’s what they used in the bearing, guess I’m use to copper material.

George, can you give me the bearing number on those King Bearings? King has 3 different main bearing sets for Pontiac's now and they all have different layers, composition. BTW, I agree with King. Would love to have bearings that look like that!

Here is a link to King bearings and the specific mechanical properties of your bearings. They are a bi-metal bearing and do not have a copper or bronze type material in the mix. They are Aluminum/tin and silicon with a steel back. Possibly, the slight color you see is the bonding layer just starting to show. But they say that would be .012" deep before you would get there. Those bearings don't look nearly that worn. May just be a burnished look on the surface. BTW, we had excellent luck with the King bearings in the funny car. Round, accurate and durable. http://kingracebearings.com/product_king/hp-alecular/

Also wouldn't the scratches not showing the bronze indicate that it is something right on the surface and not deeper?

That looks like a discoloration on the surface . Can you scotch bright it off . I bet it will come off if you do. Probably got alittle hot.

You know I was laying in bed last night and was thinking the exact same thing. When I get in the garage I’m going to take some steel wool to it!!

I came back in from the garage and YEP that bronze color came right off with 00 steel wool, DAMN who would have thought. Im having trouble believing that there was a heat issue when ALL the rest of bearings looked great BUT I can't come up with a better explanation. Just the front no.1 block side and no.5 cap side. No wear on those two bearings just a discolor......Hmmmmm.

I would guess transfer from somewhere else. Now you just have to figure out what would produce a very fine bronze colored powder.
