Are you sure going from 3/16 steel to 1/4" aluminum is a upgrade ?

I will.
My situation, since I have close to 3K in my 3 converters and none of them were made for a mid plate I think the .100 Alston plate would be the best for me .
The Alston guy said the only way people bend them is from fore and aft movement. But my engine will be in stock location so I can just have the stock rubber mounts in there and that will take care of my front to back movement.
Thanks for your help, I will read the thread tomorrow. I don,t get in the Boosted section much being a NA guy.

Everything Mark Williams is top of the line. Good luck with all your upgrades for this season.
Ours just got pushed back to June at least. Maybe July. People are chomping at the bit around here.

uhm, Since my 4L80 required a $56 Adapter plate and it fits, gosh, all it needs are "ears" be a Mid-Plate.

How about Two "ear plates" that capture the Lower Bell HSG bolts, and reach the A-Body Frame Rail?

Has anyone used some kind of spacer on their converter snout, i have a coan. Wondering if this spacer would work? Or weld something on the end of the snout myself. My converter isnt set up for a midplate.

Actually my TCI converter is set up to extend the snout. Just check it, been awhile since I last looked at it. Running the PTC since 2012 at least. It might even have the same deal on the snout.

Check your converter. It may have a screw on crank adapter. All of mine do. Unscrew it and buy the correct one for the width of the midplate.

The coan spacer will not work, its the same od as the crank register. But these extensions i found are readily available and were designed for Ls engines and putting a th350 or 400 behind them. I have one here to try , it should work. It has the same 1.7 " on both ends.

I went with the .100 Alston plate and kit. Pretty much my only choice without extended converter hub.

I run a converter spigot spacer - I make my own on the lathe out of steel, except the last one which was out of engineering nylon, they are only needed to keep the converter concentric to the flexplate/crank while you tighten the flexplate bolts.
I also use a .250" thick ali mid plate, (never liked the idea of a thin .100" thick mid plate) , I cut and drilled it to suit my early 389 block bell housing bolt pattern instead of using an adapter. With fore/aft travel limiters of course.

The people at Alston tell me they only see them bent fore and aft by people who not limit that. A large dia steel plate .100 thick would be very hard to bend you would think. I plan on keeping Mighty Mounts for front to back and will run me elephant ears and the plate. Its very solid as is with rubber mounts and the ears. With the plate I find it hard to see putting much stress on the ears as the plate will see the tq first as it moves from the tires forward.

Yeah no doubt the limiters wll stop it moving, and in the flat plane even a .100" thick plate is very strong. A mate of mine had a 9 second altered with a .250" steel mid plate and no limiters, it cracked around all the mounting bolt holes after a season or two. He put the limiters on and never had a problem after that.

That spacer was a bit to tall still so took a grade 8 washer i believe for a 1" bolt and took it down to the 1.7" radius. I used the adapter to keep it centered on the converter and plug welded it.

Mocked my mid plate up last night I got from all Pontiac. This is in a 1969 GTO with Hooker Super Comp headers and had to be modified for everything to fit...

From the bottom on drivers side. Everything is just tacked and will all be tig welded Thursday night.

Thanks for the pics. Lets me a lot of what I have to do with the Alston plate. BTW, what master cylinder are you using there ? I am going with High Ports and I expect a chance of hitting brake booster.

Lots of room on mine lol. My engine sits high anyway, and fenderwell headers too wont be in the way. I ended up adding another washer to the end of the converter and filled it all in with weld.

Alston plate showed up. I bought their bracket kit for it but it looks like its for a chassis car. At least it was cheap, won't be using it. Will do something like 69goat did. Just adding this to what I already have, Mighty Mounts and elephant ears.

Just finished installing Allpontiac plates. I still need to cut the mid plate for my headers. I like that it comes complete with converter washers and gives you the dual bolt pattern option.
