Default A/C muffler insulation

On page 259 of my latest Ames catalog G 36 there is an item shown as p/n P120DPL. 1964-72 AC muffler insulation. Seems like I recall seeing something like this on ‘64 GTO’s but don’t recall seeing it on any other years. I’m the original owner of a ‘71 with AC and there was never anything like this on the ACmuffler of this car. I’m restoring a ‘66 currently and I’m doubting it should have this insulation also. What do you guys think?

That thing from Ames looks like a beer koozie. Don't know about 64-65 but 66-up did not have muffler insulation.
