'56 balancer pulley
I have 2 '56 motors. I will be rebuilding one of them to put back in my '33 Chevy sedan. I originally built this car in '65. Its finally time to go through it again. The balancer has a built in single groove pulley. The groove looks to be machined into the outer cast iron ring of the balancer. I will be needing a double groove pulley so I can add AC. Is there a stock balancer that has a 2 groove pulley? Or is there another second groove pulley the can be added to the existing balancer? I will need one of the grooves to align with the existing '56 waterpump pulley. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, billk

They came with two groove pulleys just watch ebay or perhaps someone on here has one for you. I had several but recently sold them all.

you have to be very carefull using those old balancers, they had springs and cams in them and I have seen NOS ones that wont work properly! There is a place in KS that can rebuild them and get rid of the cams and springs but not cheap.PM me if you need info.I might even have a double that has been done.Tom

You can use a newer balancer also, I had one off a 59 or 60 389 on my old engine and its on the current 59 389 in the car.
The belts line up fine. I'm not sure how far newer you can go, but most will have provisions for at least two belts. |
