I've been here since 2000 and this is the ONLY site I'm not...

You'll have to get a different group of friends for that to happen.

If you don't mind me asking, why the change?

I've known a couple people who did that, and one was because the guy went Jehovah on us, and the other I'm guessing because she's never happy anyways, and I'm guessing this gave her a new identity, especially since she changes groups of friends to suit her needs.

The girl pulled it off by getting new friends. Family and old friends still call her the short name, all the new friends use the new name. Really strange to see her around her new friends with a new name.

The guy pulled his head out of his arse and ditched the wife that forced him into Jehovahism... actually she dumped him after she molded his putty arse into something that she wasn't originally attracted to. (Why do they do that?)

Anyways, just curious.

Not bad idea either, or just add to it under the title?

A friend of ours did that too. He went from middle name to first name. He was always a solid citizen, but I think he went Jeff on us when he decided he was mature.

My first name is Matt; I'm Engine-Ear (BTW, not the same guy as "engineer" who used to be here) on most forums I join, but Plan9 on Classical Pontiac.

I, too, tend to have a hard time remembering people's actual first names unless we've met a few times or tipped a cold one at a show or around a campfire at Norwalk.

Suggesting PY make changes to the way the site works just so we can can all learn first names really epitomizes what is going wrong in this country. Why do we the people, need our governing body to institute rules or make changes to its infrastructure, to incorporate a rule we all seem to think is a good one? If you want it to happen, then take some personal responsibility and update your signatures like others have been saying. That way you can have your name where you want it, and others have who may not think its a good idea, can have the choice to remain anonymous.

Making it a rule, or having PY post it for you seems very much in step with a certain healthcare system Im not too fond of.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that this be mandatory, nor should it be implemented based solely on our input. This is just a couple of members kicking around an idea to make the site more sociable.

Well said, Peter. BTW, Peter's writing down all your first names. You might want to consider that if you don't want your first name known.

I hear ya guys, and don't get me wrong - I like the idea of knowing first names. As a matter of fact on the ABody site, I user "73Lemans (Hi My name is Mark)" as my screen name. I just don't want anyone sitting around waiting for change to happen when we can easily do the right thing with our own accounts, thus lessening the burden on the already busy PY mods.

This all I was suggesting in the first place, and wasn't even thinking straight that it could be added to the sig, as far as people who don't that's fine this is americana,lol... I just think its a little nicer to say thank you mark for the help etc then their screen name is all. It's now at the bottom with my sig
