I think we have a winner. #8 Came in late today and looks very nice, I wont say perfect, but usable. We should be getting #9 tomorrow, we'll see if its any better. #10 and 11 next week.

Once we get a gas tank that isn’t dented all that is left is to get the correct valve stem caps nailed down and the right finish on the washer nozzles.. It’s all downhill from here....

Right.

Here's a photo of the original valve stem cap from the untouched spare tire in my 73 in case you need a photo.

I am 110% positive that this Dill cap was used on all GM cars atleast thru 1973. Now the real experts can tell me I’m wrong, but I doubt it.

No dills on my 73 and it has the original assembly line tires and wheels which have never been touched. I will recheck all five tires and the extra 1974 zero-mile, honeycomb spare I have in the garage tomorrow. I will post the results.

I love it. Something new to look out for in my junkyard excursions. My spare seems to be original and low use. It has a cap that has what looks to be a target logo on it. Has anyone got one like that?

The results are in. Of the five original wheels, two are the round ones in my previous photo and three are triangle tops like this:

So every GM car from 57-72 has the Dill 627 and in 73 they started mixing them randomly? Sounds logical to me.

Sounds like the usual supplier deal: they'd just dump the parts in a bin and the assembly workers grab whatever is there.

Well, MPD and I spent the last day and a half getting in Darrell’s way at Supercar. We had a great time and a little work got done. Darrell really impressed me with his knowledge of these cars, and what is and isn’t correct. He’s on his way to being the top Fbody guy if he can just get those GTO’s out of his system. In addition, his wife is a great cook, and he has some pretty cool stuff stashed away in the car barn at his house.

With respect to the Black Car, it is looking incredible. Pictures do not do it justice. The paint, body work and attention to detail on assembly is amazing. I cannot wait to see it finished and hear it running. While we were there, a lot got done on the interior. We got the firewall pad, heater box, dash, steering column, carpet, kick panels, and package tray all installed. Outside, the firewall is now complete with AC suitcase, booster and MC, wiper assembly, and cowl vent assembly. We had hoped to get the core assembly all pieced together and installed, but ran into problems finding the correct fasteners, and timed out, so that was a big fail. Also, MH sent me the wrong AC harness, so that needs to be remedied.

When we left, MPD power braked the F350 and left some farewell greetings for Darrell. Thanks Darrell for a great time. Here’s a few pictures.

Default The Black Car has a new caretaker

This will undoubtedly be a benchmark in Fbody restoration. I won the Dills on eBay btw.

Looking Great! Wow! Bob, what type of sealer was used on the suitcase to firewall? I know the gray caulk was original, but wondered if you improved on it ?
