Talking Steering box mystery

Fellas....

We have a 70 t/a and the alinement guy said to get a new steering box..
Not tight anymore.
I bought a used one from a guy.
Looks like the car was a 79-81.

looks like................

So I install it, add a smaller rag joint to fit. But
the input shaft seal leaks.

I remove the box, remove the dust seal and the pressure seal easy enough.
I take them down to O'rile's auto parts in town and the seals are different
(bigger) .
3 tries so far. Anybody have a solution? How did you do it.............

ramair in calif..
Currently on curfew . no kidding........................

Assume the three seal kits were all ordered for the same application, so maybe the application is wrong and the box came out of a different donor car?

I'm going to take that advice and head up to the bearing place .
They've got me out of trouble before.
The pressure seal is the important one right now.
I can fudge on how the dust seal fits.
(it was brittle and broke on the way out, so no numbers).
But the pressure seals in one piece.

No luck on the bearing house.
These guys are so freaked out about the latest lock down/quarantine/distancing
crap, They didn't want to be around customers.

They had their island surrounded with plexiglass like a liquor store in new York city. ....................................
When I walked in they backed up against the wall like I was john wick in a bad mood.................
I should'a said ''open the register, and nobody get's sneezed on''. ......................

OK....

I went down the street to NAPA. Them guys are cool! showed the pic's of what I was looking for,.
Did more research, Said ''let me get this kit here in the morning''.

$10 bucks.

If this doesn't get it done, I'm putting back in the old box and taking it back down to the alinement guy with my story that he needs to work with what I got.
He's cool too and knows a work around on stuff.

I need a drink............................................. ...............................

Strike out once more...... NAPA sucka.

I'm going for rock auto next. (thanks for the tip).
In the mean time, I stuck the original box back in.

I'm calling it an 81 this time. Latest box, latest upgrades.

Tune in tomorrow.

ramair.
