I'm being offered a 69 428 2 bolt with 46 heads. Uncut block/crank in good condition. complete except for carb. What's the going rate on one of these? Thanks....

I would buy every virgin 428 block/crank/46 combo I could get my hands on @ $500 a pop in this area. |

I would think that a $1000 is more than fair. If I were selling it I'd want at least $1200. I'd buy it for $500 even if I didn't have a need for it!

There aren't that many 428s changing hands these days.....
$500 would be a giveaway price. A good UNCUT 428 crank will sell for $300-400.
$1000 would be a gift. A Christmas miracle..... $12-1500 is probably about right for just the virgin block and crank. And you'd add $300-500 if it had 4-bolt caps. Good luck! |

1969 YH Bonneville 428 is the only 428 with 2-bolt main caps from factory.
Block is drilled for 4-bolt caps though. |

Those will be the most common of the 428's. I've seen quite a few of those crankshafts that were cracked back in the day so if you plan on using it have it crack checked for sure.
Those #46 heads are excellent, and one of the few with the smaller valves and 45 degree intake seats. They will be pressed in studs and missing the end bolt holes, but they make an EXCELLENT small chamber "D" port head if you are needing a set. Years ago we were building a 455 and waiting for a set of CNC ported KRE heads and custom HR cam and they weren't going to make it for the Norwalk race. So I grabbed up a set of #46's, quickly ground the valves, seats, added screw in studs and end bolt holes. Topped with a good set of spring they were not ported or even port matched. I had a used Crower cam in the back room from another project, and quickly finished the 455 and into the car it went to make the Norwalk race. We were expecting maybe low to mid 12's from the combo but the it ran high 11's all weekend in the heat of August. The car was a later Firebird, TH350, Continental converter and 8.5 diff with 4.10 gears and pretty tall tires........Cliff
