E85 on a bracket car questions
For those of you running bracket drag cars that converted over to E-85, was it worth it? Was your car more consistent than with gas? Does it need more advance to light?
The car in question is my 78 T/A with the specs in my signature @ 11.25:1 compression. I've been flirting for years of going to E-85 and now that we have several local gas stations selling it, I'm more tempted than ever as I have to drive about 30-40 miles round trip to buy VP 110 race gas. The good news for me is that I'm running a E85 compatable Aeromotive fuel pump and 1/2" aluminum line which helps. I will have to check and see if my bypass regulator is E85 capable.

If you have it local I think its a no brainer. I travel up to 30 miles to get it, but to be honest when I went to Norwalk two summers ago I loaded up with about 100 gallons of the good stuff. this can be used to supplement the 'worse' local stuff. Ohio tested at 87% or so my local stuff ranges from 70-82% I haven't got out much last year obviously. but for a street car or dual purpose car I wouldn't hesitate. I do not think there is a huge performance advantage, in fact there may be a slight loss, however that could be due to carb not being optimized.
at your compression range, you likely wont see any benefit but cost per gallon. I haven't sprayed on it yet, but I will likely give that a 200 shot next year. Car is set up for it why not, lol now to be fair, my new bracket motor most likely will be running alcohol, only reasons are, I bought an APD billet carb for a reasonable cost, and I know I can get methanol at any track. I plan on chasing points in 2021 and the thought of having to switch fuels, or run to ohio for fuel, is troublesome. I also feel the methanol is superior in cooling for bracket racing. This is a dedicated race car, not a street strip car like the gto. That being said, it has been raced almost exclusively on e85 since I got it 4 years ago.

Hello, I switched over to E-85 about five years ago, it is the best fuel out there for the budget minded racer. my car has run 9.50 @ 140 on it.
