Default Hood to fender rubber bumpers

I tried to pry the rubber bumpers in the inner lip of fender, but successfully destroyed the first one. It severed the pointed angle portion I was trying to push into slot with a screw driver. Now I'm thinking of just using weather strip adhesive to adhere to inner side of fender for hood to wedge against. How do most of you get this rubber pushed into slot of fender?

I have put them in boiling hot water for few minutes to soften them up. Tom

I use a fine layer of white lithium grease too. That always seems to work.

I'm going to wait until this weekend and turn my furnace up warmer. The rubber will be more forgiving. This MN weather stinks!!

I actually had to trim them quite a bit to persuade them in the slots of fenders.
