"The prices I've been getting behind the scenes for 614's and 722's is just ridiculous considering I only need cores, they'd be built specific anyway. I can't put 3 grand into a set of cores and start from there."

In 1988-9 I paid $1800 for bare new SR 614s.

Edelbrock dressed Pontiac head 36LBS, Iron D ports fully dressed 62lbs.

Just build a Ram Air V. You'll hit 600hp and 7,000 rpm pretty easy. Seems like its damn near the same money at this point. Tom S has a set of RAV heads for sale now. Just need to find an intake

Regarding the E85, question, wouldn’t the efficiency loss be a problem.for fuel cell capacity for hour long road racing?

Tom, now that they'll allow a 428 in a FGF you have no idea how bad I'd like to build a dual plane "428" V for road racing. Just gotta match those lotto numbers.
Basically my dream engine.

Unhappy We ALL wish we could buy RAIV heads for less than $3k

But, really, it AIN'T gonna happen. Not any more.

It's just reality - they're worth $3k if you actually need them.

Which is why I think there's a market for new Iron replacements. But the guys making them say they're isn't so there's only highly desirable, expensive originals.
I've given up looking for now and am pursuing a set of build D's. I can't spend 3K on west coast cores, pay shipping and hope, they'd need a certification from a shop that they're not butchered up or cracked, so far I haven't found anyone willing to do that. It's buyer beware. If I find some within driving distance I'll check them out.

I'll end with this though; so long as replacement parts like blocks and heads become unavailable or unaffordable, the classic Pontiac engine will keep getting replaced with chevy's or LS's. I have no issue using aftermarket parts, but not everything needs to be aluminum or race ready. I like our options but there's not enough of them. Most everything is race.

I have said it before, a new RAIV head that flows like a E head, room to port, modern chamber that looked just like a stock head would be a big seller.
And make it in cast steel, easily welded so you could wide port them for the ultimate sleeper. Guys could make some money on the street with them too.
If you have to cast it in China to get it done, so be it. Not want I want but do not want to see Pontiac shrivel on the vine with the dreaded LS taking over in our cool old cars either.

Tom I was shocked Edelbrock came out with so many 348-409 parts looking at ROI a smaller market than Pontiacs!

On heads I'd just like some Iron IV's with some of the mass production issues fixed, and maybe room for porting.
Basically "new" IV cores that aren't "concourse supply" priced..

I agree Skip, can't tell me those as well as AMC and to an extent Oldsmobile and Buick have that big a following. I'd suspect Pontiac is a lot bigger than any of those markets.
Some of the Pontiac makers have told me point blank, they're content with their share of the market and don't desire branching out further. Can't blame them but if the main players won't branch out, we're stuck.

What ever happened to the bunch that was claiming they wanted to make "look-a-like" RA IV heads in aluminum with all the correct casting marks, and put any number you wish on there (614-722- etc..) There was a huge list of people that put their names in, including myself, wanting a set. Then it just disappeared.

It is all about ROI! Edelbrock came out with a head port version for Pontiac. Have they not since dropped that?
