Nice solid car. The interior looks to be nice except for the dash pad.

One of the good things about AZ cars is no rust. One of the bad things about AZ cars is how the sun bakes those dashes!

Still - a terrific find!

OPH,
If it is of any help, I currently have a '72 endura Lemans in Sundance orange with 3 speed floor trans and the 9 stripe decals. Not sure if it a GT or not. Do not know how to tell. This car also came from Tucson. It is a parts car and have sold much off of it. When I bought it over 10 years ago, the fenders and stick shift stuff were already gone but, most of the rest of it was there.
In 1977, I bought my first WW5 GTO from original owner, it was red with black int with white 9 stripe decals as you call them. I always called them 'candy cane stripes'.
Steve, the main things I noted on '72 Lemans GT's with the 9 stripe decals were the splitter tailpipe tips & the original GT decal on the original decklid. Two of them also had original 14x7 rally II's, as well. Have ran across the 9 stripe decals on many other endura equipped '72 LeMans, but they were not factory equipped with any of the other GT pieces, nearly all were factory single exhaust 350 cars that the dealer just ordered the T41 front end & D98 appearance stripe. Your first WW5 car was a beauty, I'm not a big fan of cardinal red (own one) but in the pics you've put up that car looked killer!

Pictures like this can be of great help for reference. What year was this taken? Did it appear to have original paint?

This picture was taken about 2008-09 and it appeared to have the original paint. I don't have any numbers off the car, if I go back there I will try to get some codes from it. If it's still there.

I had a Monarch yellow '72 Lemans with the T-41 option 25 years ago. Hands down, it was the best car i have ever owned. I would drive yours like it is with a fresh set of rally's.

Thank you for posting. old pics of original paint cars are very valuable to documenting just what the factory did. If you took these 20 years ago, the car was still over 20 years old and a lot can happen in 20 + years.
I remember how much cars of this changed in 3-5 years of age. Many by the mid to late 70s had been repainted 2-3 times. People who were not around back then seem to have a hard time comprehending that. I was little but, old enough to remember as I was into these cars by 2nd grade.

Thanks for this info too, PB (and Fred). I didn't think that there was a breakdown on T41 production, so this is great to know. I'm enjoying learning more about the GT's!

And thanks to everyone for the pics too. Keep 'em coming!

Here's another little "extra" I found while cleaning out the trunk... the original dealer license frame!

You and I are thinking a lot alike here, Bandit... I'm planning a little "freshening" of the Rally II's and a new set of BFG's pretty quick, then a lot of cruising!

The rest of the car will get attention as time goes by...

NICE '72 LeMans GT, Todd. Congrats!

Any '72 GT w/ T41 is quite the find.

Hey Todd, you know I'm a motorhead so---get the 445 HO for the convert built and drop it in the GT to debug it, and enjoy it until the car is ready. Then do a cleanup/rebuild of the 350 to go back in. I got it all figured out for you. LOL. Mark L

Ha, ha! Thanks Mark. But did I forget to mention that the last owner already went thru the 350 a couple thousand miles back? What I really need is another '71-'72 with a tired motor to debug the 455 HO in...

OPH touched on this earlier in the thread. He said that some GT's didn't get the cutout in the stripe. His guess is that the different factories may have simply run out of the GT cutout stripes, so they went with regular sword stripes though the car was a legit GT. That makes good sense to me. I imagine both stripes can be considered correct.
