I am getting a 4 speed muncie for the 69 , it currently has a 3 speed. Will I need any other parts to install it?

Probably just a shifter, shift levers and linkage.

Is the 3 speed a Muncie or Dearborn?

Don't know about a '69 'bird but circa '73 I swapped out the original Muncie 3 spd in the '64 GTO I had just bought. Picked up a used 4 spd and shifter w/ linkage out of a '64..
Same driveshaft for the 3 spd and 4 spd in '64. The original speedo cable was too short to reach (both located on the driver side) so after the swap I never had a working speedo/odo in that GTO. I'm sure easy enough to address today but something to think about. Depending on the condition of your clutch, you might consider putting a new one in while the trans is out. New throwout bearing too. Maybe even resurface the flywheel. But that would be unnecessary if they are already in good shape. At some point, PMD quit using the Dearborn but not sure when that happened. If I recall, the Dearborn had a specific driveshaft so you'd want to check all that out if you do have a Dearborn. |

I think Dearborn usage ended in 1968.

With some luck you could be done in like an hour.

Dearborn 3 Spds continued through 69 in the A & F bodies, 70 in the B body.
The A body and probably (not sure) the F body used the new Muncie HD three speed starting in 1970.

Do you have any info on the 1970 b-body availability? I thought I’d heard of a few column shifted 3 speed manual full size 70&later cars over the years, but have never heard of one with a floor shifter (I didn’t think the Dearborn ever came in a 3/tree config in pontiacs(?) - thought they usually got the Saginaw/Muncie lighter duty transmissions) |

3 speed to 4 speed
You will know if splines are the same easily once removed. If they are unless you have bought a 70 or later muncie then slide new trans in ,., hook up linkage. Ready to roll

3-Speed Shifter
Forgive my hyjack, I have a NOS Hurst Ram Rod shifter for that 3-speed manual tranny. Would like to get $500.00 for it. In this case, I believe this is a pretty rare item! Photos show it installed on a Saginaw. And if it fits the Saginaw, I am very certain it would fit a Muncie as well. I also have the parts to install it onto the H.D. Dearborn Top Loader also. Both trannys are available, as well as the bellhousing and many other parts.
