If it's the early 400 heads,about 11 to 1 cr.
If it's the SD heads about 8.4 to 1 cr.

I have 16's on my 455 and it has 12:1. Course mine has a 4.21 bore and a 4.25 stroke, and the heads may have been milled a tad, and only has 2 valve reliefs on top of the pistons unlike the Seal Pro pistons. If I zero decked the block I'd probably get about 12.5:1.

I'm using #16 heads on my 455 and used Keith Black Hyperutectic dished pistons to accomplished a pump gas friendly 9.49:1 CR. I can provide part #'s for these pistons if your interested in my build up.
Regards,

68, That is a great picture. You have some beautiful cars. Then again I'm partial to 69's

There’s also a 1970 small valve 16 head.

If your 16 castings are pressed in rocker stud with the 1.96/ 1.66 valves sizes then the chambers are way more like 75 CCs, not 72 if they have not been milled any.
If they are pressed in stud then you want to stay away from cam lifts of over .450” at the valve. This is for two reasons, so you don’t pull the stud out and due to the stock coil bind spec of the valve springs.

I have some 1970 16 heads and I cc them at 78 and you can pull pressed-in studs and tap for the 7/16 studs, can't you? If you put new valves 1.77 and 2.11 I am sure it would be closer to 72cc Jim

Yes, if he has pressed in studs they can be yanked like a bad tooth and then they can be drilled and taped for screw in studs.

That post was 18 years ago and the OP hasn't been here since 2005.
