a quick update. i found this bicycle the other night posted locally on line. the first thing i noticed were the wheels. after a conversation with the seller, he confirmed my hunch was right. this bike has the very Motomags i have been looking for. needless to say the bike is now in my possesion and my plan is to do a wheel swap and reserect my old custom BMX show bike. so i guess you can say my search is now over as i have found a "donor" bike that sports exactally what i need. this bike is a very nice original survivor!!!

from what little i know so far, this bike seems to be on the rare side.

I've got an old chrome Mongoose "Hoop-D", but I don't think it's 80's.. It's one of the older 'overspoked' pro bikes though- not the one they sell at WalMart now. Prolly too new to be anything but it looks cool..

CW's were all the rage in the early 80s, went through a couple pairs of those with the straight flat across the top bar.

Bringing a thread back from the dead…

What is everyone working on? I’m in the process of updating my Free Agent Team Issue Limo 24 (2002 iirc) and just picked up a SE Ripper X for my 9yr old daughter.

I raced a CW Racing Z-2000 and PK Ripper back in 82-86. I’d like to find one of those or a Race Inc bike to restore. I sold the MCS Mantis(1982-1987 I think) I had a couple years ago and kind of regret it because it was a rare cool bike.

Cool thread! I recreated my last BMX bike some years ago. Started with a chrome frame and forks. Painted to match mine. Acquired parts from Ebay, etc. Had all original AL parts re-anodized. Some new parts though. It sits in my bedroom permanently.

I think my frame is actually an early MXIII. But it's just for me so...

Here's the original bike. It's by my mom's '76 Firebird! Was a six banger car.

I never had a BMX style bike.
Sold my Orange Krate when I was 7- for money to buy my first dirt bike

But my best friend Pete had a red Matthews Monoshock- with black Tuff wheels and a chromoly frame.
That thing was the killer.

Looked something like this but with cooler black 5-spoke wheels:

This is my 89 Robinson Pro Model I got for my 13th birthday. I totally remember it was $349 - my folks paid half and I paid for the other half with what I had saved up. Got it from a vendor I found in BMX Action. Arrived in a big cardboard box, only the cranks were installed. My mom suggested I wait until my dad got back from an out of town trip but I knew where my dad’s tools were and didn’t want to wait to put it together, lol.

Back in the mid to late 80s I believe Robinson was acquired by GT (along with Dyno) so this came with some GT components on it like the stem, sprocket and GT ‘Superlace’ wheels. It’s mostly original but over the years I switched out the seat and post and ditched the pads and can’t seem to find those pieces now. Looks like the chrome needs some TLC…

My friend had a green Robinson. Got ripped off.

I got one if these Christmas '75. Mathews MS-1. Mine was black. I had the only one in town. My parents paid 150.00 which was a lot back then. I never raced, but I must have put a thousand miles on that thing. Stolen in '78. Bastards.

Cool bike! Kinda like the Yamaha Moto Bike. Would not be a good race bike (way too heavy). There was a Yamaha dealer near my house growing up. Dreamed about getting one.

Still have my Redline 600a from new (1983). I raced BMX at Louise Moore Park and Plainfield Township (Eastern Pennsylvania) in the mid '80's.

Thumbs up

Sidehack I built around 1972 from 2 Fair Lady frames and pieces of curved tubing from old Stingray and full-size Scwinn bikes. I need to get a couple of banana seats and some tires and tubes for it.

My younger brother and I did a lot of crazy stuff on this hack, this was before there were any BMX bikes being marketed in any real volume that I can remember. The local Scwinn shop was just starting to sell handlebars (the ones on my hack came from there) already built with crossbars and 36-spoke rims with 10-speed front hubs and motorcycle spokes. I do remember seeing the first yellow Yamaha BMX bikes around that time maybe 1973 or so.

My kuwahara KZ1 then and now. 1981 vintage .
Won everything I raced it in, I lived on a huge mile long hill that was very steep, and would ride up it every day. My legs were much stronger than others because of this and I’d destroy them on the local BMX track. Never could get a ride to any big races but always wanted to .
It what started me in racing. Still have the helmet and gloves, can’t find my sponsor shirt unfortunately.
