Question BMX Bikes / Freestyle Bikes

Anyone have "old school" BMX bikes (1980 - 1985)?

I'm looking to obtain these bikes

Haro Freestyler 1982 - 1983
Nomura 1979 - 1983
Hutch Trick Star 1984-1985
Skyway TA 1983 - 1985
PK Ripper 1979 - 1984
SE Quadangle 1982-1985

If you have or knw someone that has some of these old bike - let me know (chris.hunt39@yahoo.com)

Thanks,
Chris

I have a real early trick star. Different seat post angle no footpegs on the forks, and a provision welded to the frame for a coaster brake. It is a little rusty, but I am planning on having it powder coated. Cool story: I spent summers in Myrtle beach growing up. I was into BMX bikes, and the guy who ran the local BMX shop had a son my age. We had another friend who had an older brother into skateboards, so about 1982 we started riding his halfpipe. Early summer of 84 one of Hutch's factory riders ? Buff came to do a promotion, and ended up at my buddies house on the halfpipe. At that time, I had a PK Ripper, great bike, but I kept cracking the frame. Well, I broke it that day. I really liked the guys trick star, but I don't believe they were available yet. The factory guy called and had one sent to the bike shop for me. If I remember correctly I paid $150 for the frame and forks. I wish I knew where I could get decals for it.

Same here. My first "real" (as in not plastic) bike was a 1983 Columbia BMX. Blue frame with yellow wheels, grips, and seat. Got it at Target for $80 on sale. I was only 5! Never did do the trick stuff, but it was my main bike for about 3 years. I still have it and I'd love to restore it, but I can't find any decals for it. Otherwise it's mostly complete, minus the pad between the grips.

Come to think of it, I did manage to launch myself into the air and land on my back. When I was about 8 years old, I was riding around with flip-flops and made the mistake of trying to slow the front wheel down with my foot.

Needless to say it worked very well.

I used to fix and sell them back years ago when I lived in CA.
All I have now is a GT Timberline mountain bike and several Expensive Racing bicycles and one hand built Track Bike.

Here are the two bikes that I have. I'm gearing up to to a full restoration on the Trick Star. The Nomura (which is like owning a Pontiac Hemi or a Ram air 5 that Arnie Beswick owned) Is is great shape (frame). I'm looking into getting all period correct conponents for it.

Know I just need to find some of the bikes I listed about !

Decals for these bikes shouldn't be hard to find since a lot of people I see are restoring them. I still have an '85 GT Performer that I ride sometimes, really nice bike.

I still have my GT Pro World Tour bike hanging off the wall in my barn, bought it new in 85. I swapped the original bars out for a set of CW's back then. Otherwise, all original.

I still have my Schwinn Predator that im restoring that was built in 3/83. I recently picked up another one from the west coast that was almost the same build date as mine in original mint condition except for some dry rotted tires. There is an 84-85 Skyway TA on craigslist in Ohio that looks good.

Plenty of Info here. They are as hot right now as Musclecars in the 80's. Ask around, be surprised what's still stashed away these days. Some sell for 3000.00 plus. Handle bars and forks easy 300.00-400.00 if they are "rare".

Current fleet:

85 Mongoose Expert
86 Gt Pro Performer
87 Haro Master
87 Redline RL20A

I used to race BMX back in the day. A friend of mine started getting back into the old school bikes a few year ago. He was telling me what stuff was selling for now and I could believe it. It's insane what stuff is selling for. I'm kicking myself for getting rid of my 83 PK Ripper years ago. I saw one sell for $1500.00 recently!
I actually called my mother and asked if she knew where my old Redline was. I recently got a big UPS package with what used to be my prized bike. There's still a few good parts on it, but I need to find a new frame.
Grab stuff while you can. People are getting wise to what they can get for this old stuff. Never underestimate the power of mid-life crisis!

Check out my 83 Haro Freestyler with Campy hubbed Graphites. I just got a set of nice Redline 401 Flight cranks for it. I just need a few more parts and it'll be complete.

Now I'm looking for a 1983 GT Pro...
