Default Constellation at Avalon air show

Friend of mine alerted me to this Constellation clip on Youtube. He is an active member of the group HARS which owns this aircraft. It recently had a major service and full repaint. Just such a lovely old thing to watch.

I would agree, looks like a Hot Rod of it's time. Question, isn't there aviation fuel in the wings as I never seen that much flame from the engines.

Common for the PRT versions of the Wright R-3350. An old friend of mine was a flight engineer on a Connie. He used to say it was common for all the fire warning lights to come on during take off . You do realize the exhaust stacks are several feet in front of the leading edge of the wings? No fuel is stored in the leading edge.

If you like the flames, this clip is interesting too.

Way cool!!! I used to work with an old timey air craft mechanic but hat worked on those. I am sure he has passed, he started working on aircraft at end of WWII. He had some awesome stories!!!

Lockheed knows how to build them ... probably half of the best looking planes ever built were Lockheed products.

It was the first airplane I rode on. A short private flight for a small group out of Burbank airport, my father took me along. I was young, sometime in the mid 50's, I don't remember much except for the red TWA stripes and the three tail fins.

WOW, Beautiful plane !

I grew up around an Airport as my Dad was a professional pilot in the 50’s - 70s.

He was based out of Springfield, Illinois where we lived.

Thanks for sharing these videos!

Chris.

For all you aviator fans, here's my next upholstery project. Howard Hughes' own B-25 Mitchell that he had converted back in the early 50's He flew this a lot and it was found abandoned in Ventura CA a while back. I'm working with a project manager but it is supposedly owned by a Hurst family member. William Hurst and Hughes were good friends. It's now in pieces being restored but the main fuselage is in Vacaville. Interesting fact for me is that the sidewall "bamboo vinyl" material is actually from a '53 Kaiser.
