Default My new Big Cat - 1960 Catalina

Finally brought our new project home. My boys have officially named it the Big Cat. Understandably so, it is as long as my 1995 K2500 Suburban.

It is an original 389 4bbl automatic car, has a few aftermarket parts on it like the Cragars, some Holley aluminum valve covers, converted to newer alternator, Edelbrock carb and a bunch of cheapo gauges along with a wood grain Grant wheel. It's like 70s street machine special. Paint sucks and has some body filler in it, but overall the car is super solid.

Got it home last night, put a new ignition switch on it and prepped some stuff under the hood and hit the key. Turned over but starter sounded like a box of rocks. After a few seconds the starter locked up. I have a new one on order and will be picking it up this afternoon.

Too funny, never thought of it until you just said that.

We're going to go back with the original Coronado red with white top though

Love those! Buddy had a 60 cat. convertible, black w/black top, red interior, tinted glass, deep dish chrome rims and big fat tires! It looked and ran great until one night he punched it, and motor mount broke, causing full throttle, into a utility pole !! Car went to the boneyard.

Awesome!

I am stuck in the mid-60s at the moment with the 64 GP & 66 Cat Conv, but definitely plan on backing up into the early 60s in the future! Love the look of those cars!

God Bless
Bill

I’ve always liked the ‘60’s - even better with the white roof. Congratulations!

I haven't seen one of those in quite a while. There used to be one the same colors with chrome wheels outside of Suffolk Va. It sat outside for many years then was gone.

I'm not sure where this one came from. There was a guy who had a Pontiac restoration shop locally and when he passed away his widow auctioned it all off. I ended up bring home way too many lost dogs and this one was the one that kept hanging around.

Nice project. My first car was a ten year old'60 Ventura. Got it free from a guy my dad worked with. I was 15 and learned to drive on that car. I thought it was ugly as sin then but now wish I had another one. The trunk lid is bigger than a picnic table.

Well, the starter is toast. Apparently finding a starter for a pre-64 Poncho is very difficult. Ugh.

Don't let a little thing like that get you down. Where are you located? We have a shop here in Dayton, OH that can rebuild your old one. Not a big deal.
