Default Pontiac Aftermarket Block?

Does anyojne have info on who is making the aftermarket (iron) blocks for these Pontiacs?

Not looking for vendors, looking for mfr?

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. On a side note, would also appreciate any feedback on builders who have experience with these castings! Are there any drawbacks/pitfalls with respect to the necessary machining??

They are the manufacturers but use an independent foundry to pour them.

Doesn't Kaufmann have part ownership in the foundry that pours the MR-1's?

Yep ! And technically speaking the MR-1 is actually a K&M Performance Parts block.

Right....
What was so funny about that whole deal was I was right and stomped their ass on the track up until I sold the car... 3 years...they blew up countless engines in that period...lol
Their argument in court was I tried to harm their business... not the facts about the block I claimed...
It all could have been easily averted...

Because they have all the Pontiac dimension... any stock internal or external part with bolt up...
They are copies of the OEM block but stronger

They are not saying they are OEM GM blocks, They are calling them an aftermarket Pontiac block. Same as an intake manifold, oil pan, etc.

I have machined both and I have built both. I would have no issues using either one.

How much machining needs to go into these blocks when buying one new? Just final hone or do they need mains align bored, decks squared, etc?

Concerning IA II blocks only. They come from All Pontiac with semi-finished cylinder bores. Pan rail, line bore/hone is done, deck is finished, oil filter pad, front and rear faces of block are finished. Every batch of blocks as they get newer, come in better and better. They are well within OE specs. for deck height/squareness, housing bore dimensions. If you want the block absolutely dead nuts perfect, you will need to have some machining performed just like ANY aftermarket block, or OE block. Current IA II blocks are as nice as any Merlin, Dart, World or any other quality aftermarket block. I can't comment on the MR 1, because I haven't built one. The shop I work out of has done 2 or 3, and no real issues to report. I have machined about 10 IA blocks. They are light years better than a 40+ year old OE block in strength and materials.
