Wow! Aside from all his pop music, he was an unbelievable guitar player.

Yeah he was a bit out there, and he was a fantastic guitar player to boot.
He was fantastic in the video playing with Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and others -- "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".

On another note, Vanity who was his protégé back in the 90s also died a short while back at the same age... 57.

My favorites.....

Little Red Corvette.... but no videos of him playing it due to copyright issues.

Purple Rain.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELk7_yr6GCo

Sorry to hear his passing. My boss said he may have had pneumonia or something related. A lot of nasty pulmonary illnesses going around this past few months...

His music has a unique sound and audience, I'm not a fan...

He was an underrated guitar player. Most just think of his pop, top 40 stuff but he was really a talented guitar 'shredder'. One of the better, more memorable Super Bowl halftime performances.
Too young for sure...same age as me.

Yea, always thought of Prince as a guitar shredder because he could just get on it at any moment.

Pretty much ignored his work after oh about 1985.
Thought he'd bust out again during Y2K but 1999 was just played louder by the radio.

Underrated for sure! Prince wrote a lot of songs and touched many musicians and artist!

The amazing part of his persona was his humble nature. He was edgy because he was so talented in many ways...

Absolutely wicked guitar player and a true artist. So sad. We've lost a huge talent.

I had one semi-personal encounter with him, back in the early 1980s - pre Purple Rain. At the time he lived somewhere in the same neighborhood as me; I was at a local ice cream shop having a sundae when this little guy on a purple Honda motorcycle rode up with a hot girl on the back, who was wearing not much more than a camisole and heels. They walked in as I was walking out.

Another looser connection: the guy I had paint a couple of my motorcycles back then also painted Prince's bike.

Too bad he's dead. But eccentric music people don't really impress me. Prince, Michael Jackson.... whatever.

One thing he was.... self taught to play the guitar and other instruments. Now that's talent if you can do that. I sure as hell couldn't do it, even as much as I want to play a guitar.

Wow. He just put on a surprise show here. Two shows in one evening, actually, just a couple of weeks ago. He lived in Toronto for a long time and he used to come out on stage as a surprise guest at many concerts, in venues large and small.
I was never a huge fan either. But boy he could put on a show. And give you a face full of big time American entertainment.
