Heater A/C controls
I have a 65 GTO w/ A/C. I have never used the heat. I have a valve closing off water to heater core.
I tried to use my heat and opened the valve. Apparently I never attached the cables to the heater box. My question is there 2 or 3 cables from control to box. Is there any sort of vacuum needed to facilitate operation of heater??? Think I can access cables and box by removing glove box? |

You definitely need vacuum to operate the system properly. Attached diagram shows the air doors. Some are operated by vac.

Maybe this will put the file up.

A/C cars have one cable for temperature control.
All other functions are controlled by vacuum. See attached charts from the restoration guide.

HTR.
Thank you guys for responding. That vacuum diagram is what I needed.
BTW I found my restoration guide. Hoped I wouldn't have to use it anymore. What opens the doors vac. or the cable? |

If I read the Pictures correctly, the Cable changes the position of the "Cam Profile"
The "Cam Profile" opens or closes Vacuum Switches that control the Vacuum Diaphragm Actuators, somewhat like a Vacuum Tri-Power set up works. Either the Vacuum Switch is supplying vacuum to the actuator or it is venting the actuator and the actuator goes to the rest position. Tom V.

ok thanks. I need to make the temp lever move more freely. When I manually push the cable all the way to warmer, I have good heat!
Haven't worked on the old girl in a couple of Winters when I pulled the engine and had a new rear main seal Installed. Got a new addition to the Garage so I work on the Vette some now. Goat is 10 times the car that I've added. |
