Chris,

That car is stunning, simply a wonder.

Would love to have the chance to see it in person and take a ride in it someday.

Great looking 65 Chris. And Baltimore built too.

I delivered to Broad St. Pontiac back in the late 70s.... probably 1979 or even 1980. Missed that GTO by at least 14 years. LOL

Congrats on your purchase! What a great car. They are still out there, I just can't find them.

Default The Engine Bay

This is the area needing some attention.

Radiator and heater hoses.
Rebuild the OEM dated brake master cylinder which was in the trunk.
Find a correct dated Delco-Remy voltage regulator.
Switch the valve covers back where they belong.

It still has the OEM hood pad, dated plug wires 3-Q-64, dated AFB carb #3896 J4 and it's large ear AC radiator cap.

Note the OEM red positive battery cable (spring ring end was replace) being held with the starter wire clip upside down and at the front valve cover bolt. Never seen anyone do that before??

Wow! I've never seen somebody leave in the connection for flushing the cooling system. I'm surprised that's stayed water-tight.

I see a car alarm siren in the back there, too.

Wow, this car has held up amazing for storage in a non-insulated east coast garage? Was not expecting that.

Wow. Wonderful car, wonderful story, wonderful lady!

Regarding door edge guards: Mike Noun and I just had a similar discussion on my car. Door edge guards do not appear on my build sheet, billing history card or on the PHS highlight - but they are on the car, so we added them to my repop window sticker.

I'm not sure if they are something Dad added after the fact or if there is something unusual in the way PMD handled them.

Default Cordelia's '65 "Survivor"

Hi Chris,

If you have the time and inclination would you mind posting some close-up pictures of the power antenna? There are some slight differences between the '64 and '65 so it would be a great benefit for some of us struggling with the details. Would also be great to see where the switch was placed on yours as well.

Thanks!

Eric

Eric, here's a blow up of the rear speaker and antenna switch.

Rear speaker switch is on the left, and antenna switch to the right between the clock and heater controls.

Hi Eric,

I have some photos that may help you. There are several components on this early 65 GTO that are directly related to a 1964. So maybe my 65 power antenna (TENNA MFG. Aug. 27, '64) will be the same issue that was used in a 64?

Let me know if these help you.

Default Cordelia's '65 Survivor

Excellent, excellent pictures Chris, thank you! This better confirms my belief that the '64 power antenna has black plastic covers on both sides of the motor/housing while in '65 (and later years) Pontiac switched to metal covering the mast track side.

Thanks again!

Eric

Default Cordelia's '65 Survivor - Power Antenna

I want to update my last post to avoid any confusion in case someone is doing research in the future. '64 & '65 use the same power antenna - #9770160. I think the manufacturer (Tenna MFG.) used a plastic cover to cover the mast cord track side in '64 and switched to a metal cover in '65. I believe both years used a plastic cover to cover the motor side. (sorry Chris, I don't in any way mean to hijack your thread!) Eric

Agree A TRUE TIME CAPSULE!

One thing i always ASSUMED was that a 65 GTO CAME with the Rally Gage Package vs say a 65 Tempest/Le Mans getting the standard gage package. Now I know better.

Nope - my car came with the standard gage package (not rally cluster).

It must have been specified because the build sheet says "Build without 504".

Default I don't think it's Sears and Roebuck.

The name on the seat belt is "THE ROBERK CO." in Norwalk, Conn.

They sold automotive parts back in the day.

These were very common during my teen and young adult years ('70s). They were always left in place and I've bought several vehicles over the years that had them. They came with the Prestone flush kits.
