How do you get the steel dash out of the car? Do they unbolt?? I need to do some repairs to my 64, and that would make life way easier!
Thanks!

I did not take the dash out... it had already been removed when i got the car. Long story short though, it needs to be drilled / cut out. The original was rotted out along the bottom and had been repaired with fiberglass. The one in the pictures, i got out of East-West out in Oklahoma just before they closed.

Update finally. After 2 years of waiting on my body guy, he finally took the body back in April to get started. He was going to paint the bottom of the car, and reseal all of the seams. He also decided to start blocking the quarters while he had the car. I've had suspicions about the right quarter since i bought the car. I know it has a lower patch panel in it, and it oil cans if you bump it in the right spot. The car is still on the rotisserie at this point, so should be fairly easy for a body guy. So he paints the bottom of the car, and blocks out the back half of the quarters.... and then gives it back to me after about a month. I'm somewhat frustrated at this point because i want him to keep it and keep working on it at this point, but whatever, it's coming back home at this point - and boy am i glad it did! The bottom of the car and the firewall are painted, and look like absolute ass. I think a 11 year old with a spray can could have done as nice a job as he did. Absolutely no prep at all. Rolled it into the booth and sprayed it! I could have done a better job myself. In fact i did when i repainted it. And this is what he did to fix my oil can quarter. Needless to say i cut him loose. I'm afraid of what the rest of the car would have looked like!

About a month later, I saw a friend from the forum here, and told him the story of the canned body man, and he gave me the name of another body man that he had used. I called him, and he did have an open slot and i got the body to him. He's making good progress and doing much much much nicer work. No longer a paint jail victim, and i can see getting the body back in a very reasonable amount of time. Still waiting on my motor... no date but it is to the point of being ready to assemble. In the mean time i've been working on restoring or rebuilding components and sub assemblies.

Looking great. A good metal man is tough to find...and one with an opening in the schedule is like a unicorn. The car is looking beautiful and will be a real gem when it is finished. Thanks for the update.

Still moving along. Got the body back in early October. Took it an had the headliner installed, so that will be the last trip anywhere on the cart. Slowly going back together, things are really busy at work right now. Days off are few and far between. Engine came home 2 weeks ago, so it's all on me at this point, but this is the fun part now.

Nice work. Kept mine a Lemans as well. Just left most of the badging off. Lots of people have to ask or really look to see
what it is. License plate frame does say 1964 Lemans but most people can't read that. LOL.

Cardo,

I agree, you do not see a Tempest or Lemans much these days.
It’s refreshing to actually see one and yours will be a super nice example in that dark color.

Keep it going!

Chris.
