Default 73 Grand Am window sticker

I was looking through some of dad's things last night and I found the window sticker for the 73 Grand Am he special ordered. Originally tried to get the SD-455 but as we all know it was not meant to be. After weeks and weeks he settled for the standard 455. I was lucky enough to be allowed to drive it back when we picked up from the dealer. I was 15 at the time with a learner's permit. I can remember the car as if it was yesterday. One of the sharpest Grand Ams I have seen. Florentine red with red interior.

Notable that it was a 4 door, and that it had the Unitized ignition.

Only 726 455 4dr 1973 Grand Ams were made.

It sounds like many asked for an SD-455 in their Grand Am. The SD-455 was to be available in a 2 door only, but was dropped.

I did not realize the 455 equipped 4 door cars were that rare. Dad ordered another 73 Grand Am after my sister bought the red car from him. Second car was white, white vinyl roof, red interior, 455, unitized ignition, am/fm stereo 8 track, power window, power seat. The only option I could not talk him into was getting the tach.

Was the second car a sedan, or coupe?

It was a four door car. Dad bought GTOs for awhile but got tired of just 2 doors. His last GTO was a 69. Afterwards, he was buying Buick Wildcats or LeSabre 455 cars. The Grand Am 4 door fit the bill as he wanted a GTO with 4 doors. He always ordered the largest engine in whatever car he was buying. He always wanted something with "some get up and go".

I do not know if either car exists today. Last saw the white car in the mid 1990s. Still looked good. Nose was not cracked, but the factory chrome exhaust extensions were long gone. Always loved the look of the factory exhaust on these 73 cars. A bodies had the extensions turned "out" when viewing from the rear. F body cars had them turned in.
