64 Engine Compartment Paint
Friends:
What is the color for the engine compartment? I have some scratches on the fender well of my 64. Looks to be a glossy black? Thanks Rick

Not glossy black, more of a satin black.

Satin or Semi-gloss black. About 60% gloss. Any generic semi-gloss black or satin black will look correct.

The best product I've found is Eastwood Underhood Black. It matches the factory satin black very closely and applies nicely.
If you don't want to order from Eastwood, a cheaper alternative is Rust Oleum #7777 Satin Black/ If the surface is completely free of oil, wax, etc., this paint works well. But, if there is any trace of oil, wax, etc., there is a tendency for fisheyes. Recoating can only be done after 48 hours and sometimes will wrinkle as you apply further coats. Believe me, the Eastwood product is the way to go.

find a body shop supply store in your area. buy a two part system . it is much more durable. it stays fresh much longer or forever actually . they can flatten the paint to your speciation.
spray guns are cheap . say harbor freight . any cheap gun will work in this application |
