Your favorite Pontiac and why
You might think it’s the Birds, but it’s not. It’s my friend and fellow member here’s car I named Black Beauty. I just Love this car, I just loveeeeeee the body lines, and even more when she’s up on her back wheels. This is Troy Tribby’s Black Beauty. my second favorite is the car I learned to drive in, when I was 18. It was my Mom’s 69 Bonneville convertible. Sorry it’s a very old photo the only one I have. Sad story on the Bonny, Mom decided to sell it for a Chrysler Córdoba, and our then neighbor bought it for his Daughters first car. She had it a week and pulled out in front of someone. Mashed the whole side in. I cried for a week., and blamed my Mom. And the stupid Córdoba was a piece of junk! With it’s Corinthian leather seats. All because my Mom bought that corny Ricardo Montaban dudes schpeal on TV. He should have kept to Fantasy Island lol.

When I was about seven years old my dad bought a red 1961 Catalina. It was just a base model, plain jane four door sedan, but I still thought it was the greatest (it was a big step up from the '53 Chevy he had previously.) My own first car happened to also be a '61 Catalina that was identical to the one my dad had, the same color combination and everything. I eventually went through a few red '61 Bonnevilles, until I got the hardtop I still own today. However, if I had a choice I'd go for a red '61 Ventura with a bucket seat interior.

First would be a 69 LeMans. First hotrod I ever bought. Sold it like a fool. Now it's cut up in some other fool's yard, rusting away. Too much of a project for me to take on.
Second would be a 63 tempest. Something about those lines. |

One of my favorites is the 1977 SE T/A Y82. Smokey and the Bandit is the reason.

When I was 12 years old, the guy down the street bought a new '72 Trans Am, white with blue stripe, blue interior, 455-HO, honeycomb wheels. I'd run to the front window anytime I heard him start it up and drive by.
I so loved that car that it made me into a diehard Pontiac guy and I swore I'd have one like it someday. And here we are....sorta Eric

Always been my dream car, but could never find one I could afford, or that was in good enough shape. I still don’t have that ONE special 77, but my 78 will suit me for now. needed a few things that the Awesome people here have helped me accumulate to make the bells and whistles go off, now I just need a completely new braking system, new tires, and a Speedometer cable, and we’re in business.

Mine would be a 69 Trans Am or a 71 GTO Judge, I just love the nose on the 71 with the long hood scoops. The 69 T/A just because they are so rare.

I was too young to remember what Pontiac my dad had in 1969. But it was new. It was definitely a full size. It was big and brown. But all that mattered was that it had a power antenna. We loved that thing and would always fight over who was in the front seat when mom wasn't. Because in the front you could operate the power antenna. Later, my brother had a 72 Grand Prix and that was the only car in the world at the time, as far as I was concerned.

I guess I am lucky because I own it. I am hoping someday to show y'all how "my dream" turned out. Secret stuff in progress....
I like 70-73 because to me it is such a pure design. Blatantly stolen design themes. 60's Ferrari in the rear window. Maserati in the front treatment. Last of the chrome bumpers. The small back window birds. The sawed off bull nose front. The big wheel arches. The crease line lower, not Camaro high. High back (yes Vega) seats post 70. I find 72 Custom interior patterns the cats meow. I like 72 honeycomb grilles with honeycomb rims. I like my butt a few inches off the pavement. I like the gigantic unwieldy doors. I like that women like the cars without even knowing what they are I like Trans Am steering wheels. I find the dash with tach and gauges like home. And set up right, they handle great to as fast as I go anymore. I think stylistically, 70-73 endure, and will never be "frumpy". I think they are like 9 inches shorter than a later 70's bird, so they park the best, haha.

I suppose most of us like a certain model because we had one or knew of one somewhere in our past.
I'm no different. My first Pontiac was a new silver '69 RA3 4-speed GTO. Therefore, I'm partial to the '69 GTO. What I really wanted was a Judge. But, early in '69, the only color available was what I called "Halloween Orange". I know the official name of the paint is something else. But, when the salesman told me that was the ONLY color available, I told him "I ain't about to drive around in no halloween orange car". So, I suppose my favorite body would be a black '69 Judge. My 2nd choice would be a '65 GTO. Was gonna buy one in '69, but my boss talked me into buying a new car, instead. To me, a nice, dependable 4-speed '65 GTO would make a great driver. Could burn a little rubber when I "need" to, and make a few local shows. Next would be a '68 Bird. Owned quite a few. Raced several of 'em. This is my pick for a drag car. I was always over 6 feet tall & overweight. So, an A-body gave me more room. Was a little cramped in a 1st gen Bird. Next, & the last one I'll mention in this post, is a '77-'78 Bird. Also inspired by the Bandit car. BUT, I'd want a Formy rather than a T/A, & a hard top rather than T-tops. That way I wouldn't have to deal with the shaker or leaking T-tops. We had a '77 4-speed black Bandit. Ran & drove just fine. But the T-tops poured & we didn't even have a carport, at that time. It was TJ's DD for a few months. She liked everything about it, except the leaking top. In '77, a local guy had a new black Bandit. Over the winter, I helped him put together a '69 GTO I had, so he could do some bracket racing with us, in '78. So, his Bandit was usually at my shop several nights a week, during the winter of '77-'78. That car is still basically all original, & is owned by another local guy. Pretty much "show only" now. /\ Brew 73 TA's are just in a universe of their own. Add SD / 4 speed icing and no better.

TJ bought one in '78, as her DD. It was a D-port 455 car. We liked everything about it, except the color. The paint was a little dull. I called it OD Green. I suppose that came from my NG experience. Back then, EVERYTHING in the Army seemed to be OD green. Maybe that's why I've never liked that color.
