I agree. I would be inclined to clean it up, do the brakes, tune-up and fluids, put tires on it and DRIVE it. Rather than have it stripped of all of it's history and sit in a restoration shop for years and spend 80-120k getting it restored. I prefer drivers over restored cars by a bunch, though.

Inherited GTO
Rather than have my 3 sons (isn't that a TV show ?) fight over my '65 Goat, I sold it to a guy from Escondido, CA a few years ago. I still have a few 'boxes' of misc. stuff to find a new home for (hint, hint). As well as a very good library including 'original' workshop manuals that needs to go also.
My advice is to decide what you want the car to be when it is 'finished'. That makes all of the decisions along the way much, much easier! Among us GTO guys, it is reported that the 1965 model is the favorite. Good reporting I would say. I loved mine for 28 years! Last edited by unclescratch; 01-20-2021 at 05:55 PM. Reason: more info |

Looks like it has different style wheels on the rear, too.
Definitely get matching vintage-look rims or mags. I'm pretty fond of the Cragar S/S wheels myself. |

wheels
The Cragar S/S are certainly period correct, heck 'I'm period correct too ! Just beware of what offsets are available if you want to fit other than stock sized tires as well. Myself, I really like stock steelies w/dog dish hubcaps. With those I made my own wheels to fit 'big and littles' inside the wheelwells nicely. Wifey hated them, so I eventually went for the Pro Stars, my next favorite!
