Default ID this undercarriage clamp - 65 4 speed car

Need some help with an ID on this clamp/wire holder in the pic. It's on the drivers side undercarriage. This is a 4 speed tranny with the backup lamp option. If it's for the backup switch wiring, would anyone know how it is routed from the switch? thanks!!!

Thanks gents. Yeah thanks for the heads up on that tranny bolt but the washer was ghosted in the pic. Just went through cleaning off the undercarriage. Survivor car from the west coast.

Thanks John but have to throw these two diagrams in the mix. Thinking the diagram you posted is perhaps 64? The switch on my 65 has the 2 way L connectors like these diagrams but they don’t show this clamp. Go figure!

Default FWIW...

IIRC '65 & '66 are the same.
Here is the clamp/speedo cable off my '66.

Looks just like the OP's picture. Just taken from a different angle.

Well, I can't vouch for the illustration and could be '64 only. I collected it from a long ago thread here.

If it was intended as a Clip for the Speedo Cable rather than the back up lamp wiring, then a car without Back-up Lamps should still have that clip, right?

My '64 did not get Back-up Lamps. As far as I can recall, it did not have that Clip. I will check my photos for evidence of it. Since it is now restored, I can't be sure whether it ever had that Clip. I wonder if a screw hole exists.

My GTO is also pretty early as a late Nov '63 build so a running change is also possible so even if mine never had that Clip, it wouldn't prove it was only associated with the Back-up Lamps.

The illustration I posted might have been for the Dealer Accessory Package so that it may NOT have been the same for the factory install.

Either way, I would be looking for '65s WITHOUT Back-up Lamp option to see if they do have that Clip with the Speedo Cable supported by it.

tripower, I've tried to decipher your illustrations but they aren't real clear. The one looks like the wiring along the firewall so I can't tell how relevant it is. Not sure what you mean by the "2 way L connectors". If that is something different than what is shown in the illustration I posted, I'm not seeing it.

I'll try to check my GTO and post if I see anything useful.

Not sure the drawings I posted are 65 only as well but that second drawing is how it is routed on the firewall, in tune with the engine harness.

The switch connector (L shape) I have is like the repo Ames sells in this pic. The other pic is from their catalog but shows the switch reversed as well as the reverse rod. There must be several ways to do this!

Okay, I checked my Nov '63 Fremont built '64.

Did NOT come with the Back-up Lamp option (and none presently installed).

Mine DOES have that Clip, nutted down to a stud same as posted in Post #1.

Mine was apparently never removed so it was painted Black along with the rest of the body floor underside during the Resto.

The Speedo Cable was not clipped into it but I pushed it up into the Clip and it fits albeit not a tight fit and therefore the cable kinda wants to follow its own path at an angle to the Clip. I didn't try to squeeze the Clip tighter.

But since mine has the Clip, I'm now buying the idea that it was intended for the Speedo Cable.

I also now think the Illustration I posted was likely for the retrofit of the Back-up Lamps Dealer Accessory Package. If the '64 factory Back-up Lamp wiring also ran across the firewall, it looks like the Dealer Kit ran it differently and may have simply taken advantage of the existing Speedo Clip while adding Plastic Retainers as seen in the Illustration I posted to support the wiring and Speedo Cable.

Regardless, I retract my original claim and agree with everybody now.

So can I say X5 on the Speedo Cable Holder?

John V., I always appreciate you getting into the details! Should note that when that clip was not used on my car, the speedo cable rested on top the left exhaust pipe and melted the casing a bit. Thanks again.
