Hi all,
Looking for opinions on a recent A/C service I had done on my GM A-body (not Pontiac - Gasp!). Purchased rebuilt VIR for $350 from ebay and took with to A/C shop. Old school guy said he could restore system to R12 - so I said let's do it. Called later to say condenser plugged up with black sludge (black death). Said would flush out and (rest of system) but not compressor. He installed my brand new/shiny VIR and filled with R-12. Says its cooling nice. Worried the compressor is going to have bad stuff in it that will eventually pollute the system and ruin my new VIR. He said he wasn't worried about compressor, that sludge will stay in the bottom (He didn't even drain out the old oil). Its done now, wondering if I wasted $1000. Since I don't run the car that much it could be next year even before things start to go south. Thoughts on any of this? Thanks!

I’d a flushed the whole system.
What’s a VIR?
